THE DALLES — Columbia Gorge Discovery Center presents Sasquatch Signs and Symbols with Paul Graves, Saturday, February 22, at 5:30 p.m. The evening event begins with a taco bar dinner at 5:30 and the presentation at 6:30.

Paul Graves is a Sasquatch researcher from Wenatchee, Wash. and an avid outdoorsman. Graves has been researching sasquatch sightings and searching for evidence throughout Washington and the Pacific Northwest since 1988.

He grew up in the eastern Washington Cascade Mountains, in an area with a rich history of bigfoot sightings among local residents, including Native Americans who report experiences that go back 300 years. “Choanito “ is the Wenatchee Indian name for sasquatch, which means “Night People.” He has collected a large amount of evidence that supports the existence of the sasquatch, including hundreds of eyewitness accounts, track casts, photographs, and audio recordings. He has personally had two brief sightings. Graves has worked with scientists, wildlife biologists, and other sasquatch researchers while investigating this phenomenon, as well as conducting field research by himself.

Graves and his wife, Becky, live in North Central Washington in the foothills of the Cascade Range and live part-time at their cabin in the Cascade Mountains. They have raised three children. He owns a concrete construction and design business. As a professional musician he has played with many Northwest bands. He also composes and performs his own original music, including many Sasquatch songs. He is currently playing with his new band “True Giants”.

Graves has appeared on television and radio shows including, Seattle’s KOMO TV Northwest Afternoon. He has assisted with or appeared in three History Channel episodes of Monster Quest and shows on A&E, Animal Planet and National Geographic.

Graves states, “I am really interested in Sasquatch behavior and communication and the whole ecology of the subject. I believe this is a living species, most likely of the hominidae line. We can attribute certain traits and behaviors to them gleaned from eyewitness observations, things like vocalizations, wood knocking, and sign markers.”

He uses innovative ways to collect Sasquatch evidence. One technique he has used since 2005 is to “record backwards behind him” to see what may be trailing him. His first system was mounted on his jeep; he then moved to a backpack system to record backwards over his shoulder. This idea was conceived after the suggestion of some Indian friends from the Olympics. Graves is a lifelong musician with a recording studio, and he uses this technology to conduct research into sasquatch communication through wildlife audio recordings. He performs spectrographic analysis on his field recordings to look for a “voice print” or frequency range, and this allows him to compare the recordings with other known animals.

This is the last weekend to view the “Sasquatch Revealed” exhibit, so if you’ve been meaning to check it out, don’t delay!

THE DALLES, Oregon — Does Sasquatch exist? Rumors of a large, hairy, man-like creature roaming the Cascade Mountains have existed for centuries. Where does myth end and science begin? Columbia Gorge Discovery Center presents “Sasquatch Revealed,” a new exhibit opening Saturday, December 28, 2013.

This exhibit draws from all the available scientific research and evidence compiled to date on the hominoid known as Sasquatch, or Bigfoot. The display, curated by Christopher Murphy of Vancouver, British Columbia, will be at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center through February 23, 2014. Explore audio segments, view a gallery of footprint and handprint casts, reports of sightings in Wasco County and United States, newspaper reports, comparative skulls, and artist renditions.
