Lizard Man: The True Story of the Bishopville Monster

Lizard Man Book Ad

It’s October 1, so I thought it would be an appropriate time to reveal the cover art for my upcoming book to be released on Halloween. This time I take on the case of the legendary “Lizard Man” from Bishopville, South Carolina to recount the complete, fascinating story and to shine new light on one of the most bizarre and hair-raising encounters with an unknown creature. During my research trip to Bishopville, I discovered that there’s much more to the story than I first realized… and much more than meets the eye regarding the media’s portrayal of this modern-day ‘creature from the black lagoon.’ All in all, it made for a fascinating research trip and resulted in a book that I think everyone will truly enjoy.

Bigfoot Roadtrip DVD Review

Posted by: Lyle Blackburn on July 9th, 2013

Sure, you could grab the family, load up the mini van and make a run down old Route 66. But with the high price of gas these days, might I suggest taking a Bigfoot Roadtrip instead. All you need is a DVD player and some popcorn.

Transporting the Minnesota Iceman

Posted by: Lyle Blackburn on June 28th, 2013

It’s back! The 1960s sideshow attraction known as the “Minnesota Icemen” has resurfaced and taken up residence at the Museum of the Weird in Austin, Texas. The infamous gaff recently turned up on ebay with an asking price of $20,000. It was promptly sold to an undisclosed buyer, which turned out to be my friend Steve Busti, owner of the Museum of the Weird.

Details of the purchase remained under wraps until Tuesday night when the Minnesota Iceman was featured on the A&E network show, Shipping Wars. In order to transport the Iceman from Minnesota to Austin, Steve worked out a deal with the network. As part of the show, Steve and the driver Jennifer, stopped off in Fouke, Arkansas where they met up with myself and fellow cryptid researchers, Ken Gerhard, Chris Buntenbah, and John Attaway. We then took Steve and Jennifer into the woods near Boggy Creek for an evening of “bigfoot hunting.” The next day they continued the trip until finally reaching Austin.

Willow Creek Does Dallas

Willow Creek is funny, suspenseful, scary, and altogether entertaining – something that is sorely lacking in most “bigfoot” films. In fact, I dare say Willow Creek is the best bigfoot film I’ve ever seen, save The Legend of Boggy Creek. (You knew I’d say that, right?).

Fouke’s Monster Mart Makes Big Changes

Posted by: Lyle Blackburn on June 6th, 2013

When I started researching for my book, The Beast of Boggy Creek, the first place I visited was the Monster Mart in Fouke, Arkansas. At the time, the Monster Mart was an unassuming little convenience store that only hinted at the town’s big legend. The outside of the store did have a small mural of the creature (made famous by the movie The Legend of Boggy Creek), but the inside merely offered a cheerless curio case and a few old newspaper clippings tacked to bulletin board near the front door. It was better than nothing, but all in all, a rather disappointing display of memorabilia and crude merchandise that, to me, seemed unworthy of the town’s intriguing history.

Since the release of my book, however, there have been some major changes which have elevated the historical recognition of the legend and the curb appeal of the Monster Mart itself.

Discovering Georgia’s Legendary Altamaha-ha

Posted by: Lyle Blackburn on August 30th, 2012

While on a recent book research trip (I’m working on a follow-up to The Beast of Boggy Creek), I passed through Darien County in Georgia where I had the opportunity to stop off and investigate a famous cryptozoo creature known as the Altamaha-ha, or “Altie” for short. Although this particular creature does not fit into the scope of my new book project, I did not want to pass up an opportunity to learn a bit more about the legend and visit a few sighting locations.

Book Review: Bigfoot War by Eric S. Brown

Posted by: Lyle Blackburn on May 18th, 2011

Forget the lovable star of Harry and the Hendersons or the reclusive giants seen in many a Bigfoot documentary and imagine for a moment a Sasquatch with a much more volatile temperament. A realistic animal with the power and prowess of a mountain gorilla, only larger, hairier and able to stand upright like a man.
