A Cryptomundian’s Bigfoot Encounter in Maryland

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on May 19th, 2013

Cryptomundian Noppie offers his personal experience.

I had one very straight forward bigfoot sighting a few years ago. I had other incidents that lead me to believe but NO straight forward sightings. In 2001 shortly after being hired by the USPS. I had to go back to my older employer to fill out some paper work. On my way back on route 97 near Annapolis I stopped to help a female motorist. She had said her freind was grabbed. It is a longer story and it could have been a bigfoot, I went into the woods without thinking. I saw a military helicopter and looked up. The crew man was pointing at me then point elsewhere. At that point I saw a blonde running towards me. She was naked from the waist down and was scared out of her mind. I was too far away to see what might have grabbed her. When I got back to vehicle MD State police where there. I was told to go to my truck. The first trooper to talk to me stopped and said he was not filing a bigfoot report. The second Trooper asked if saw a bigfoot. I told him I as too far behind to see. But he came back and said “your people want you to leave the scene now”. I tried to ask what he meant. But he would not let and said agin your people want you to leave now.

I cut my hair really short as I run every day and train martial arts. I am often accused of being a police officer or still being in the military.

My own personal experiences lead me to believe along with what I read on the internet. That our government knows about Bigfoot. If local report a bigfoot sighting though it may be denied by the police it will be hunted by specialized military unit and killed. If not killed motivated to relocate away from the human population. I have no proof just a belief.

    Ummm…………….ok

  2. DWA responds:

Well, who am I to say?

    I will say this, though.

Anyone who thinks that there is no way that government on any level would ever want to bother with any kind of coverup of anything of this sort is just as naïve as anyone who is utterly certain, no evidence required, they just know it’s happening. One thing I can tell you for sure: they don’t work at any level of government.

As someone who does, I can tell you that when we work with you the taxpayer, we big-time earn our money. You can be a real pain in the [posterior parts]. Yes, we know that government serves the people. Well, frequently the people are your evil-boss nightmare.

We hate headaches in government, because the biggest headaches in the world of work are the ones we get. I can totally see somebody, like a cop, or on the ground – or in the air – military, suddenly seeing a big headache brewing, who thinks that “nothing to see here, folks” would be a handy-dandy way to make today’s headache go away. Not saying that I have any hint that it’s happening, but I don’t automatically rule out this person’s story as whacko. Believe me, many if not most people’s reaction to the very concept of bigfoot is far, far more whacko.

And that might be the best reason for a “nothing to see here, folks” attitude.

And believe this: there is without shadow of doubt no reason to believe that any government agency would want any part of being The People Who Found Bigfoot.

Imagine the headache THAT would be.

  3. eyeofstrm responds:

HMMMMMMM. Let me get this straight. The U.S. Govt. cannot keep Military plans secret, But Bigfoot? No problem.

  4. chewbaccalacca responds:

The story is intriguing, and I’ll have to leave it at that. But regarding your comments, DWA, I’ve often pondered the many possible reasons why a government might want to cover up something like this, and would be curious to get other opinions. You touch on one: the bureaucratic headaches it creates, which would be formidable. But here are a few other possibilities: protection of an obviously endangered species; economic protection of the logging industry; or the government knows something about these creatures that would be unsettling/disturbing to the public in some way (possibly something violent, as hinted at in the story above, or perhaps even paranormal, interdimensional, or UFO-related) (I’m trying to think outside of the box here). As I said, I’d be curious to get any other opinions.

  5. mandors responds:

Assuming it to be true, it sounds like an op gone bad. You don’t just get a helo out on a dime, even near Annapolis.

@eyeofstrm Cut the nihilistic stereotypes. The Gub-ment keeps plans secret every day. Plans bigger that this. Sometimes they do a horrendous job, e.g., smuggling chemical weapons from Libyan to Syria via Turkey, getting a station chief cum ambassador killed along the way, but somehow it stays, mainly, secret.

  6. DWA responds:

    eyeofstrm:

Remember, the government gets a big assist here.

We know the government has military plans, and there are always people sniffing the ground to find any leaks there.

    But bigfoot? Bigfoot’s not real.

  7. Ploughboy responds:

Ditto DWA’s comments. Really, it is always about the paperwork, and how best to avoid it.

  8. DWA responds:

chewbaccalacca: Well for one non-government coverup that I have frequently pondered, I might expect, as at least a possibility, a shoot-shovel-shut up response to an incident in which a logging or mining truck or other vehicle hits a sasquatch. Or, say, a farmer or rancher shooting one in defense of livelihood.

Economic protection might be the government’s incentive, and it’s conceivable. But nobody has an incentive greater than the business itself to protect its gravy train from becoming a wildlife preserve, wilderness area or national park.

  9. chewbaccalacca responds:

With all due respects, eyeofstrm, I think if I hear the “government can’t keep a secret” meme one more time, I’ll pop a blood vessel in my brain. Try looking up a little something called the “Manhattan Project”–for starters.

  10. PhotoExpert responds:

Noppie–I believe your story! Of course I would believe it based on just you but you are not the first to report a Bigfoot story in that area. In fact, there were several others that have seen a BIgfoot near where you had your sighting.

I am referring to a report that is well documented along the I-97 corridor. It was at the time Arundle Mills Mall was being built right there off I-97. You can probably find the report online. But in summary, the Bigfoot in question was spotted by a night watchman. State Police were called. A DNR biologist also was a witness. All stated it was not a man and not a bear but a totally unidentifiable animal not native to Maryland. As you know, there are occassional blackbears spotted in Maryland but that is in the northern part near Cumberland. There are occassional blackbears also spotted further south and sometimes near the eastern parts of the state but that is an even rarer occurance. But when separate witness report a very tall, large, bipedal creature covered in fur and leaving the scene on two legs, that is no bear. What makes that story credible is that a biologist, police officer and security guard, all stated it was not a bear or a man.

That part of Annapolis where you had your experience is not far from where this reported incident happened. In fact, given the timeline and location, it could be the same creature!

DWA–You know, I never thought about the reasons you mentioned for a goverment coverup. Your explanation makes perfect sense and you should know from first hand experience. Thanks for posting that insight! And it was humorous as always, as I have come to expect from you.

  11. Redrose999 responds:

Someone once told me, bigfoot is our governments worse kept secret. They don’t bother keeping it secret because the press and folks in general won’t believe there for, if it is real, it’s still secret.

I’ve also heard on this forum many stories from service people about the Military and its bigfoot policy. It’s interesting, to say the least.

Human psychology is down right interesting, and easily manipulated.

If Bigfoot exists, there has to be some kind of government policy. I can’t believe our government wouldn’t, there are all sorts of industries in this country that would be screwed by a native hominid/primate, lumber, real estate and fossil fuel to name three. After all if we have a relic hominid species running around, we need to protect it’s environment and all that right? That means folks will lose money and we can’t have that.

  12. springheeledjack responds:

My take on the theories and conspiracies runs something like this: there’s plenty of possibilities. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t some sort of “official” stance on Bigfoot at some level that may not be general knowledge. As to what it might be and so on, who knows. While I love the conspiracy theories to an entertainment level, after a while it just makes my head hurt with all of the theories and perspectives.

The bottom line is find the big guy. Everything else will fall into place once we solve that issue. Then when information comes rolling out, the “I told you so’s” can have their “Ha!” Until that day, I’m not getting bogged down with the side avenues because there’s no way to prove any of those either.

  13. DWA responds:

    PhotoExpert – thanks.

The MD black bear population is pretty substantial. This, from a June 2010 examiner.com article:

“MD DNR is preparing to conduct another intense population study, and place the current Maryland black bear population around 600 bears. On a side note – spend anytime in western Maryland and the locals will claim the bear population to be much higher than MD DNR’s estimates.”

As you note, they range. One won’t see them much east of the mountains, but the non-mountain counties of Baltimore, Cecil, Harford and Carroll are seeing marked increases in sightings. My wife and I may have encountered one – sound only, but it sure wasn’t a deer – near the Anne Arundel/Prince George’s County line a few years back. And if one goes to the Point Lookout State Park visitor center in St. Mary’s County, one can see the mounted head of a wild one shot there by police or DNR officers, forget which, in 1985. It had been causing trouble of the typical bear type. No indication existed that it was anything but wild.

But yep, I doubt the one you mention was a bear. Seriously doubt that.

Redrose999 – I have to admit, if this animal’s real, it’s hard to believe the government doesn’t know about it. But as I said, there are very practical common-sense reasons to not go blatting it all over the place, if you are the government.

springheeledjack – exactly. Look, if sasquatch are real, there could be something to, for example, habituation stories. I mean, it happens with the other apes. But no sense spending much time on those, or the government-coverup scenarios, until either those people come forward with evidence or the animal is otherwise confirmed.

  14. DWA responds:

    OK, PhotoExpert, made me look!

There’s quite a bit of course on the Arundel Mills critter online. I found the Baltimore Sun article by Laura Barnhardt on rense.com. There is this passage:
    ——————————————
DNR sent a regional wildlife biologist to the construction site, but the search for the animal or its prints came up empty, said Susan O’Brien, a department spokeswoman.

“It was most likely the bear spotted on [Route] 295 not two or three miles from that site,” O’Brien said.

The female bear, which had been with a small cub killed by a car on the road, would have weighed at most about 300 pounds and would be about 5 feet tall if it stood upright, she said.

She said the animal might have looked much larger – distorted by the witnesses’ fear and horror and by poor lighting. That is, if the bear was the same animal that terrified the construction workers.

The officer reported finding a 15- to 20-inch-long print and seeing a large animal near a pond on the construction site about 3 a.m.

Although the print would have been too large to be from a bear – even a large one – O’Brien said it was possible that the animal had slid in the dirt, creating an elongated print.
    ——————————————-

Well, for one thing, I have never had a sighting of a female bear – and I have seen most of mine a considerable distance from civilization, a much more frightening scenario – distorted by fear and horror. Five feet. 300 pounds. Max. Please.

Second, there may be nothing in forensics easier to determine than that a print was distorted by the maker’s sliding in the dirt. Even I could make that determination.

    Please. Again.

  15. PoeticsOfBigfoot responds:

Okay, this site has officially gone off the deep end.

  16. DWA responds:

    PoeticsOfBigfoot:

Unless you can come up with the evidence that we should believe you, it’s just another rant.

If you’re more comfortable on the Randi Forums – talk about deep end – go there, simple.

  17. PoeticsOfBigfoot responds:

Nah, they’re not as entertaining as you are. Thanks for the giggles!

  18. Julie Dodge via Facebook responds:

    Whoa, scary!

  19. Noppie responds:

Obviously there are those who will refuse to believe will never believe. Yes, I offered no proof other my own willingness to acknowledged an incident I had. Each of those who doubt in the existence of Bigfoot will have either own “weird or unique” stories in their own life. That you had to be there just to believe. So please do not tell me or anyone else that there unexplained incidents in everyone lives.

Government secrets and coverups: Our nation is filled coverups of one type of another. JFK, and his brother along with Martin Luther King are more then likely the most popular as a coverup. We had coverup with bay pigs and so on. In some case the “government” will never acknowledge a coverup. In other cases many years later it might acknowledge. But in trying not to get off topic. Coverups have and will take place.

If our government wanted to kept something secret then it can. In some case when that secret information spreads beyond the select few. Then maintaining the secrecy will not kept. So yes the government has failed to keep secret the existence of bigfoot.

By the way I work for the Government as well.

PhotoExpert: thanks for acknowledging other Bigfoot sighting

  20. Noppie responds:

Cryptomundo: Are there any other Maryland sightings?

  21. DWA responds:

PoB: Oh, when the evidence says you are laughin’ all the way to the bank, the yuks are free!

  22. DWA responds:

Noppie: the BFRO database shows 32. Forget how many are on John Green’s, but the number was noteworthy enough to help change John Bindernagel’s mind about the animal being restricted to the Pacific Northwest.

  23. NMRNG responds:

I cannot believe that people are focusing on the government cover-up aspect of this story when the key statement is the inclusion of a topless girl – this ridiculous “detail” makes it clearly fiction – a load of manure.

Additionally, I lived for many years in Maryland and there is no way that anyone saw a bigfoot near Annapolis. I could entirely believe it in western Maryland, where it is somewhat mountainous and heavily wooded, but the Baltimore-Annapolis-DC area is so heavily built-up, densely populated and devoid of much cover that it absolutely could not be any sort of long-term habitat for a bigfoot and would deter a wandering one from passing through because of lack of wooded terrain in which to hide.

  24. DWA responds:

    Just checked on Green’s.

    226 reports for MD
    .

  25. DWA responds:

    NMRNG:

The MD county with the most reports on the BFFRO database?

    Anne Arundel. By a lot.

Think of it what you want (and topless people being a frequent feature of American culture, it does nothing for this report one way or the other). But the very attitude expressed in your post is the primary reason 1,500 sasquatch could live in Annapolis proper without fear of scientific detection.

Not conspiracy theory (none of this discussion is).

    Just plain ol’ human nature.

Anyone who thinks the Baltimore/Annapolis/DC region lacks any sort of hospitable terrain just hasn’t been keeping their eyes open as they travel around the region. As a long-time outdoorsman, I know. It’s disappearing, and now faster than ever, but it sure isn’t gone.

  26. NMRNG responds:

There have to be some teenagers from Annapolis running around in furry costumes, doing it as a gag; unlike many other parts of the country, where such an activity would be dangerous, almost no one in the Baltimore-Annapolis-DC triangle hunts, so they’re not in much danger of getting shot like they would be in more rural places. I lived in Maryland for nearly a decade and that part of the state just does not have the habitat to support a sasquatch, sightings or no sightings.
