Bigfoot Lawsuit Kicks Up A Notch

Update on this earlier Cryptomundo post…

The San Jose Mercury News reported Friday:

Bigfoot lawsuit kicks up a notch
RESEARCHERS DISPUTE SASQUATCH LIBRARY
By Dan Reed

Sometimes, with this Bigfoot business, it’s hard to know what to believe.

And that’s not even addressing the purported existence of the publicity shy ape.

No, there is a fissure among three Bay Area Bigfoot researchers. It all came to light when the Mercury News wrote a story about a July 11 lawsuit filed by C. Thomas Biscardi, a Redwood City man who bills himself as a "World Renowned Bigfoot Researcher."

He sued North Bay residents Carole Rubin and Robert Shorey of the Great American Big Foot Research Organization, of which Biscardi used to be CEO.

It seems, Biscardi said, that the pair and their organization owed him $185,000 and the return of his Bigfoot library, which included many treasures of the animal and its legacy, including films, pictures and plaster footprint casts.

Rubin thinks — to quote her directly — that Biscardi "is interested only in self-promotion and not in the genuine study and research of Bigfoot." Rubin and Shorey said the deal was to pay him $65,000 and an additional $60,000 if profits came in, which they didn’t. And they promised another $125,000 for Bigfoot-finding expeditions.

And while most grown-ups think Bigfoot is an amusing myth, Rubin said her group spent more than the $125,000 on expeditions last year — paying for high-tech gadgets and whatnot to find the elusive primate, more than what’s needed to satisfy their deal.

Shorey, along with Biscardi and others, went up to Vancouver; they also went to Burney, Calif., Medford, Ore., and Happy Camp, Calif. Along the way there was disappointment. What were thought to be Bigfoot calls — perhaps a cry in the wild for a little loving? — turned out to be that of a coyote.

Shorey’s epiphany came in Burney. He said he looked up and saw the prized creature. "It was unbelievable," he said Thursday. "The hair on the back of my head raised up. I couldn’t believe what I was really witnessing, but I was witnessing something."

So, if Bigfoot exists, why haven’t any of its remains ever been found? "That’s a very interesting avenue," Shorey said — and clarified: "Maybe they pick up their own dead, and carry it someplace."

As for Biscardi’s library, the pair said he exchanged it with them for shares in their company. And he stored it all up at a deli in Happy Camp. So, if he has his own library, why is he suing for its return?

They’re not sure.

But Dennis Kazubowski, Biscardi’s lawyer, said Thursday that Erik Beckjord, another Bigfoot believer, tried to broker a deal to end the dispute. The deal would say the group did not have Biscardi’s library, but if it found it, it would be returned and he’d be given $10,000 to end the suit.

Rubin said it was one of several potential settlement proposals, but we "haven’t agreed to anything."

Meanwhile, Kazubowski said no deal. And he added: "Robert Shorey and Carole Rubin are pathological liars and possibly insane."

Told what he said, Rubin responded: "Gee, that’s a nice comment."

As for Biscardi, he’s all atwitter over his latest Bigfoot encounter outside of Paris, Texas. A local television station went along and its report can be linked to on Biscardi’s Web site (www.searchingforbigfoot.com).

He’s going back Sunday with some "special operations guys" and he’s looking for a capture.

"Unbelievable," he said. "It might be this week."

I agree that Biscardi is ‘only interested in self promotion.’

Kudos to this Carole Rubin! I hope he loses the case.

  2. shovethenos responds:

Two interesting points raised by the article:

    – The bigfoot vocalizations that were actually coyotes: I’ve heard several vocalization recordings that clearly had some coyote-like elements to them. So I wonder to what extent Pacific NW cryptids mimic coyote calls, incorporate them in their vocalizations, or possibly use them as “audio camoflage”. (Similar, perhaps, to how indian scouts would sometimes use bird calls to signal each other.) Or the possibility that coyotes react to their vocalizations like dogs sometimes react to loud or similar-sounding sounds.

    – The other was about Biscardi saying that he had some “special operations guys” and was close to a capture: I don’t know what kind of equipment/personnel he has, or what he’s thinking, but I am highly doubtful that a live capture can be performed. If a large cryptid primate is out there and they actually do manage to corner it, the odds favor a bloodbath more than anything else.

  3. One Eyed Cat responds:

Methinks Kazubowski better take a good hard look at his own client before spouting off on others mental state.

What a mess! The case is probably going to turn out a reputation and media bloodbath the way things are going

    Yawn!

  6. Dudlow responds:

Everyone loves a circus. Celebrity mud wrestling anyone?

  7. TemplarKnight21c responds:

I think Ms. Rudin and Mr. Shorey should sue for slander. A lawyer should know better.

  8. scmarlowe responds:

IF the statements are true (unlikely as a Lawyer WOULD know better) it should be a matter for the ABA ethics and conduct board to handle.

  9. ABoyd C responds:

Man, how did Erik Beckjord get involved?

If this thing goes to trial the judge will need to provide anti-psychotic drugs for some of the witnesses to get anywhere.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
