Champ Caught on Video at Champ Camp?

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on August 16th, 2011

As part of Champ Camp a time lapse camera was set up overlooking the Button Bay area of Lake Champlain in Vermont. Images were taken every 10 seconds from approximately 8am to 8pm. A spot appears about 45 seconds into the video that was only on one frame so it was not a boat. It had to be something that surfaced for a moment then went back down. It was in the distance so no telling what it is. It was Champ Camp after all so it is nice to think it was Champ making an appearance. Either way this is a wonderful way to watch a full day on beautiful Lake Champlain.

  1. Hambone responds:

    Your kidding right?

  2. Craig Woolheater responds:

    Kidding about?

It is not claimed that it is Champ.

It is claimed that we don’t know what it is.

  3. Cryptidcrazy responds:

I say the following, as an avid angler who spends 3 days a week, on my local lake and as a believer in Champ. That was, without a doubt, a fish jumping out of the water.

  4. wolfatrest responds:

Ummm, shadow, big fish, otter, beaver, ect……good eye on catching it though.

  5. THE REAL CMAC responds:

    Somebody call the Hillstrands!

  6. GuRuZombi responds:

So we don’t know what that was for sure, but I really do like this idea of having time lapse cameras set up on different parts of lakes. I think this could definitely help with multiple viewing of locations for a long period of time and with different angles, there is a better chance of an object being seen more clearly.

  7. Cryptoz responds:

Maybe this time lapse method should be used for Bigfoot. Set it up in the woods with bait.

  8. wuffing responds:

Do you have flying bugs or birds at Lake Champlain? If not, then it’s Champ for sure.

  9. Hapa responds:

Beauttiful scenery, nice serene music…good for a calming, relaxing moment, but as for crypto-zoology, its not worth the oil the footage was made from.

We don’t need anymore footage. We need a corpse.

To the people who shot this: Instead of setting up cameras like this, set up an date with the lake, bait, good fishing tech, and a very large grappling-hook!

  10. Mïk responds:

Please leave the Hillstrands out of this…we want an intelligent discussion. Remember this was a time-lapse…that dot, along with the dozen or more other dots out there, stayed on the surface for several 10-second exposures. The box does more to cover up the action than to point it out. It coulda been anything; a beaver on tour; a deer looking for greener pastures; a bigfoot treading water; ANYTHING. Nice view and nice reference to a bunch of nice people in our crypto-community, but there’s nothing to see here…move along

  11. Loren Coleman responds:

Water bird, perhaps loon or merganser. Really too far away to tell.

  12. jeff11 responds:

Looks like a fish hitting a bug on the surface, but it could be a small animal of any kind.

It also looks really ridiculous that the video is posted as evidence for an undiscovered giant lake monster. Really clownish stuff.

Craig, you wrote: “It is not claimed that it is Champ. It is claimed that we don’t know what it is.”

You also created the post and video, and you entitled it: “Champ Caught on Video at Champ Camp?” so blaming people for saying you posted this as evidence is disingenuous.

  13. Craig Woolheater responds:

    jeff11,

You do see the question mark at the end of the post title, right?

That means I was asking a question, not making a statement.

I posted it to see what the Cryptomundians thought and what their interpretations were.

  14. THE REAL CMAC responds:

    @Mïk
Please get a sense of humor, ok? thanks

  15. Mibs responds:

    Champocabra!!!!

  16. Believe.It responds:

I wanted to share this video I captured to show that we were testing out time lapse as a way to watch an area for longer periods of time. The fact that there was one “dot” as it was called, that only appeared in one frame was interesting. I am with the others thinking it was most likely a fish or bird if anything as boats you can see in multiple frames. However, it looks big if you compare it to the kayaks that are in frames before.

The box was put there to help locate the spot and not to cover up anything. I am not trying to convince people that this is Champ.

As a cryptozoology researcher it was exciting to see something questionable in the video. As you all know, we all spend lots of time sitting in the field and on monitors reviewing possible evidence.

It is obviously way too small and quick to make much more out of it, but I hope it puts the idea out there for others to try this approach in their research. Plus you have to admit that Lake Champlain is a beautiful location to search for cryptids.

    Thanks,
    Mike Esordi

  17. mandors responds:

Based on the objects that move past the same space–boat, kayaks, whatever it is, it’s tiny. Probably a bird. The real question is, what is that stick like object to the left that never moves through out the whole film.

  18. Va-Bigfoot responds:

    Cryptoz,

The camera used by Mike at Lake Champlain is one of the cameras I will be selling on my EyeGotcha website within the next three weeks. The site will offer many items that will aid in obtaining still images, video and audio evidence. I strongly believe the time lapse camera systems will finally capture evidence of the Bigfoot/Sasquatch creatures and maybe all the other Crypto creatures out there!
