Interesting show. I have been interested in the numerous historical reports of large humanoid skeletons. Unfortunately, the examples, as the hosts point out, have disappeared from museum collections. (Hurrah! For the scientific method!) That said, I can’t help but wonder if these guys are linking two disparate phenomenon, pre-non-Indian civilizations and giants. Also, I am I the only one who wonders whether all these remains of “giants” could be in fact be remains of Bigfoots. Considering that one of the leading Bigfoot theories is that they are surviving homo heidelbergensis, if true one could see how the discovery of such bones would lead people to think they were of giant humans.

  2. Goodfoot responds:

“Bigfoots”? How big are we talking about? Does anyone know? Because there is a definite limit to how much weight load a human-like skeletal system can handle, before the bones will break under the weight they’re asked to support.

And I don’t believe the limit is really large, either. Under 15 feet, probably, maybe even less.

We also know about the various health problems human giants are plagued with. The heart undergoes a LOT of stress if you’re 8 1/2 feet tall. Most never see 40, much less 50, years of age.

  3. mandors responds:

Ah, but you are thinking “giantism” Goodfoot. That is a disease. The giants proposed here, if they exist, are genetically predisposed to large size. So the assumption that they would be frail or have shorter lives is misplaced. People are living today that are well over 7 feet tall. Manute Bol and Shaquille O’Neal are not suffering from illnesses, at least do to their height, and will likely live long healthy lives.

Homo Heidelbergensis skeletons estimated to be over 7 feet have be found. The trailers for the show I believe mention 8 foot skeletons.
