Yeti caught in Russia’s Ingushetia Republic

The servicemen of the Border Department of the Federal Security Bureau Directorate in the Republic of Ingushetia captured a bizarre creature which looks like the legendary Yeti. The creature is two meters tall, Interfax reports with reference to the Minister for Labor and Social Development of Ingushetia, Bagaudin Marshani.

“Several days ago, a hunter in the Jeirahsky district saw a strange animal that looked like a bear. The bear caught a sheep and dragged the animal into the woods. The hunter followed the bear and fired his rifle at it several times. The animal jumped on its rear legs and ran away. Border-guards patrolled this territory today and found the weird animal in a hollow,” Marshani said.

According to him, the border guards captured the animal and took it to the zoo situated on the territory of the holiday hotel near the settlement of Surhahi in the Nazranovsky region of Ingushetia.

“I tell you what. The animal looks like a gorilla. It is nearly two meters tall. We believe it’s a female, but she is really big. A gorilla usually moves using its front extremities, but this creature stands vertically, like a human being. She roars and produces strange sounds,” the minister said.

The animal is frightened; she eats meat and herbal food, the official added.

“Some say it’s a Yeti, others say it’s a large ape, but, to be frank, I’ve never seen such a creature in my whole life,” Marshani said.

Large gorillas usually have long and massive arms. The arms of this animals are short, and it stands like humans do – on its feet.

“As far as I know, Moscow specialists are supposed to come here soon to take the bizarre creature,” the official said.

UPDATE:

It was later reported that the news about the captured Yeti was a hoax. Bagaudin Marshani stated that reporters misinterpreted his words.

“That was a life-size puppet that we are going to use for New Year holidays. You guys just think – it’s December 29th – what kind of Yeti can there be before the New Year holidays? He will be our Yeti for three days: on December 29, 30 and 31,” the minister said.

“The holiday for children will start at 2 p.m. Ded Moroz and Snegurochka are arriving today on a special flight from Greenland. They will get to meet the Yeti that we “captured.” There will also be ten talking animals at the holiday – a wolf, a squirrel and others. Ded Moroz will introduce the Yeti to children,” the minister said.

Officials with the Border Department of the Federal Security Bureau Directorate in the Republic of Ingushetia rejected the information about the capture of the so-called Yeti by the republican border guards.

“News agencies distributed the information without checking the facts. It’s a hoax,” the press service of the department told Interfax.

I was just about to post this on the other thread that I just found:

“Concern for orphans is not something one would normally associate with the Yeti. But now, in the southern Russian republic of Ingushetia, the Abominable Snowman has been raising funds and public awareness of orphans’ problems.
Earlier, sensational news about the capture of a mysterious Yeti was spread by none other than the local Minister for Labor and Social Development, Bagaudin Marshani.
He announced that the beast would be placed in a zoo, and visitors flocked to see the animal.
On Thursday though, the minister spilled the beans. It turned out that the Yeti was an ordinary Ingush hotel worker, dressed up to resemble the fantastic creature.
The minister revealed the reason behind the show.

“It was a promotional event, a New Year joke to put the spotlight on orphans and children from dysfunctional and low-income families,” Marshani said.
He explained that the “Snowman” was kept at the zoo for people to come and see, and make a donation. All the money raised will go to help children in need.
The prank was a huge success, with crowds from across the republic and even neighboring states hurrying to see the Yeti in the flesh.

    Thanks to you, Craig!

  3. William responds:

With this “prank” being such a described success one could only imagine the throngs of people that would arrive if ever the real thing would somehow be captured alive!

  4. Jonathan Poulsen responds:

Could this creature be a great grandchild of Zana the female Almas who bore children with many human males in her life? As soon as the children were born, Zana would wash them in the icy-cold river which led to their deaths. When townsfolk found out she was doing this, they but a stop to it and many of the children lived to as recently as 1954. The children, unlike their mother, could talk, work and act like normal humans. They were so strong that they could lift up a chair with a man on it with only their teeth! I’am inclined to believe that the Bigfoot-type creatures that are seen in Russia are the same creatures that are seen in the Northwest Territories, Nunuvat and the Yukon. The same creature that was killed in 1967 and displayed as The Minnesota Iceman. We can call them Almas, but their scientific name is Homo pongoides.

A good rule of thumb would be to a priori ignore anything coming out of Russia.

    /cheer

and I am of russian descent… but in the words of G.O.B. Bluth, “c’mon!”

  7. Peter Von Berg responds:

I am not only of Russian descent, but am in fact Russian, though I grew up in this country. But years of communist rule followed by the current mafia-run society have severely damaged the Russian character, once proudly the inheritors of deeply spiritual values fostered by its incomparable literature, music and religious philosophy. Now sadly we have a criminal society of robbers and liars in all walks of life. Which is why I say be on your guard about anything you hear from there or about what comes from there. I think the current Bigfoot hoaxes, fostered not by individual hoaxers like here, but by people in government and science, proves my point.

  8. Opalman responds:

    Ladies & Gentlemen;
Another possibility should be at least be considered even if it borders on the, “very improbable”, in this case.
The initial report could be factual and if the current Russian government follows our countries example of keeping its citizens in the dark, (The Mushroom Protocol), why wouldn’t it follow up initial reports; (inadvertent leaks), with subterfuge and disinformation. The video only slightly aids in making the follow-up explanation remotely plausible. Personally I don’t buy it: showing children and donors a slaughtered lamb to make the party all the more festive? A ex-communist federation now embroiled in massive corporate vice and Mafioso-like activity would be a ripe victim of mega-bribes if any such creature was found or captured. There are many reasons for Russians to keep quiet about sasquatch (almas), not all of them dastardly. The official telling us that sources weren’t checked is suspicious in an environment of low public confidence and media trust.

Lets not forget the Russian taiga and closed canopy forest literally dwarfs anything we have on this continent. There are many huge tracts (and even whole regions) that have never felt modern human footprints. We should expect much more activity in the barely populated areas than we do. This too is suspicious.

  9. sasquatch responds:

I think Dr. Meldrum found this out…

  10. red_pill_junkie responds:

In America, the day to make pranks and tell tall tales is April’s fools, but it seems that Russia follows the Christian tradition of Dec 28th as the Holy Innocents’ day, just like in Mexico.

But further than that, I do wonder if there’s more to this story. With all the recent social upheaval caused in Russia by Putin’s megalomaniac ambition, maybe this was intended to be a smokescreen campaign to divert the public’s attention.
