Another Hogzilla Movie!

Cryptomundo reader The Foywonder tips us off to yet another Hogzilla movie. Apparently, the one Hogzilla movie that he tipped us off to yesterday here on Cryptomundo, just wasn’t enough.

Wait … Two Hogzilla Movies?

So I posted a link to the Legend of Hogzilla story I did the other day (read it here) in the Foyer section of our message boards, and the first reply was from someone posting a pic taken on the set with star Joe Bob Briggs standing next to the effects mock-up of the title beast. I was taken aback by this because nothing I’d read about The Legend of Hogzilla made mention of Joe Bob Briggs starring in it, and since the movie hadn’t even reportedly begun filming yet, I was doubly unsure what to make of this. I decided to surf over to Joe Bob’s website and discovered that sure enough John Bloom, whom we all know and love as the iconic Texas drive-in B-movie critic Joe Bob Briggs, was indeed starring in a movie about Hogzilla – just not the one I’d reported about yesterday.

Two Hogzilla movies? Yep! And this second one is technically first – already in post-production.

The version starring Joe Bob Briggs is entitled Son of Hogzilla (though the current promotional artwork doesn’t have the Son of part, simply calling it Hogzilla), and only claims to be “inspired by actual events” and is described as a “horror parody,” as opposed to The Legend of Hogzilla, which seems to have its sights set on being a more straightforward horror flick. In Son of Hogzilla/Hogzilla, an unsuspecting news crew treks into the Georgia swamps in search of an aggressive feral hog the locals have dubbed Hogzilla.

Judging by the artwork, it would seem a lot of those stray humans are hot babes with guns. No complaints here. Joe Bob plays a crazed mountain man. Not much else to go on in this one outside of the film’s currently sparse MySpace page, but I’d suspect we’ll be hearing more about both Hogzilla flicks in the near future.

Hey, the world survived dueling volcano movies, comet/meteor striking the Earth flicks, and Truman Capote biofilms; surely we can live with two movies about Hogzilla. And if you ask me, we’re a better world for it!– The Foywonder
