Look Back: Sasquatch Filmed in IMAX?

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on May 26th, 2014

Back in 2010, there was talk that a Sasquatch was filmed during the 2000 production of the IMAX film Great North.

The “creature” appears in the film at the “9:20” mark into the footage.

This was talked about here on Cryptomundo, with Loren concluding it was a crew member:

Sasquatch Filmed in IMAX?
New IMAX Enhancements of “Backpack Bigfoot”

A Closer Look series – Bigfoot recorded in IMAX “Great North” documentary by ThinkerThunker:

IMAX crew accidentally films a bigfoot. Skeptics claim it’s only a crew member wearing a backpack, but we see where this CAN’T be a crew member, unless he’s a giant, AND an Olympic sprinter.

Not to mention … Crew-members know better than to ruin a shot.

  1. Peter Von Berg responds:

Very persuasive, I must say. Well analysed and thoughtful presentation.

  2. springheeledjack responds:

I agree with Loren. Nothing there to make me think that it was the big guy…other than it was dark in color.

  3. eyeofstrm responds:

I think the individual who did this piece pointed out more than the fact it is all black. How about its size, speed in which it moves. Also, who the hell would be dumb enough to place themselves in such harms way? Plus, it does actually look like something jumping on its back near the end. Why would an individual dress all in black and go run in the middle of a stampeding herd of wild animals, HELLO?????

  4. dconstrukt responds:

why would it be out in the open where it could be easily spotted?

as a creature that is supposed to stay hidden, this goes against everything it would supposed to do.

  5. hoodoorocket responds:

Huh. Way back, the first time around, wasn’t the general consensus that this was a crew member on a BMX bike? I don’t see any holes poked in that explanation.

Still looks to me like a doofus with his kit on his back, cowboying it on a BMX through a spooked herd.

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and sh*ts like a duck, then it must be a hippopotamus!

  6. Goodfoot responds:

    dconstrukt:

Whoa, man. It DOES hide itself, as soon as it sees it’s being observed! It’s visible for what, five seconds? And then, it ducks down, into some low point in the terrain.

The terrain is clearly very uneven, yet it glides along, with no dipping or rising. How could a guy on a BMX, which is not even claimed by the crew, glide on this bumpy terrain, with its head on an even glide, neither rising nor falling?

Every one will see what they want to see in this footage, and we all know what you want to see. We’ve seen your shticks for several years now.

The face is as black and featureless as the rest that is visible, and whatever it is, it is very, VERY large indeed.

I’m not making a definite call, but the same footage has you making a negative call, as if you can see more than the rest of us.
I’m calling BS on your part. As always.

  7. hoodoorocket responds:

@ Goodfoot- I think your umbrage was meant to be pointed at me, not dconstruct.

To be clear, I don’t know what is filmed here, I only know what it suggests to me.

As far as the terrain, the figure is in a gully where some of the reindeer are running. The reindeer are running as smoothly and as fast as the figure and dip out sight before mounting the rise.

The only difference between the path and speed of the figure from the reindeer is that the figure fails to mount the rise. If it is a human on a BMX then one might suppose he either wiped out or tried to hide from being in the shot.

Could this be bigfoot? Sure, why not? Does it move in a manner one might expect from a large biped? No, not at all.

  8. Goodfoot responds:

hoodoorocket: Both of you, actually, but 25 points for “umbrage”.

  9. slick1ru2 responds:

I’m viewing this on a 60″ top end plasma and yes, it appears as something jumps up onto their back. I suggest trying to look at the footage on a larger screen and you may change your mind.

  10. hoodoorocket responds:

    @ slick1ru2:

I suggest you look at this video, which shows a BMXer with a backpack under nearly identical conditions.

Watch it to the 40 second mark and notice the similarities of the backpack movement whilst pedaling heavily over rough terrain.

    Cheers.
