Malaysian Village in Panic over Bigfoot Prints

NEGERI SEMBILAN – About 200 Bigfoot-like footprints have been discovered near Kampung Kepis Baru, Kuala Pilah, causing panic among villagers, reported Harian Metro.

Adnan Pungut, 48, claimed he discovered the footprints when he was clearing rubbish and wood at his rubber estate at 3pm on Saturday.

“I immediately informed the others because I was scared. I told the other villagers and all of us went back to the area.

“We found 200 footprints that were about the same size and tried to follow them,” he was quoted as saying.

“Based on the footprints, we can assume that the creature has two legs and weighs more than 100kg,” he said.

According to Adnan, further checks by villagers found that the creature could be headed towards a nearby forest.

The report stated that the villagers decided not to pursue the creature as they were afraid.

“We will let the authorities handle it as the animal could be endangered,” Adnan said.

Well, I for one am glad the Big Hairy Dude was able to get away from it all, even if his tropical vay-cay was cut short because of some overzealous beach cleaners. But I gotta say, a beach near a rubber estate sounds pretty gross.

Why was the name “Orang Pendek” not used? I just think it’s odd.

  3. Alamo responds:

    Hi Goodfoot,

Orang Pendek is an Indonesian word. Malaysian is similar, but not quite the same… their term for it probably varies.

  4. Zalmoxes responds:

@goodfoot, because orang pendek is in Sumatra and is a Sumatran name for the cryptid there, even if its the same creature, there’s no reason that it would have the same name

Hi, im from Malaysia and an avid offroader and jungle angler. Been a fan of Cryptomundo for few years and registered to comment on this.

Malaysian bigfoot is called Mawas locally. There is a local town call Mawai (Chinese immigrant slang) which is aptly named due to so many Mawas sightings in 30s when the town was first established through logging.

When we are in the jungle we are well advised to bug out when we smell human faeces, coz that’s how we tell if mawas is near. Personally ive never smelled it. Only smelled tigers which smells like old urine on fur. Mawas is something very familiar to the old folks which opened up the villages back in the early 1900 and old logging people and its accepted as a fauna in the jungle.

Orang pendek is Sumatran, but on a mahseer fishing trip in Malaysian Borneo (Borneo is divided between Malaysia and Indonesia) a place in upper Kapit region a boatman did mention there is a tribe which was small sized and hairy and don’t know how to make fire. They eat raw meat. I thought it was carnivorous orangutan or he was nuts.
