Bigfoot Movie Casting Call

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on April 7th, 2007

There’s still time for folks in the Cleveland, OH area who have the inkling to be in a Bigfoot movie to make the casting call this evening.

Sorry about the late notice Cryptomundoers, but I just saw this item and posted it posthaste.

March of the Melonheads

Calling all actors who can do “perky cheerleader” or “march-band nerd”!

Local filmmaker Brian Lawlor is holding screen tests today for Welcome to Cretonville: Legend of the Melonheads, a horror movie he plans to start shooting next weekend in Kirtland. “We’re going to go for the gut on this one,” he says. “It’s going to harken back to a classic slasher flick.”

Welcome to Cretonville takes place in a fictitious Lake County community, where a myth about Big Foot-like creatures called Melonheads has persisted since the 1950s. The ghosts of their teenage victims haunt the woods. Lawlor needs varsity cheerleaders and chaperones to terrorize a high-school marching band. “If you live or grew up in Lake County, you’ll chuckle here and there at all the inside jokes,” says Lawlor. “But essentially it’s going to be a horror movie.” The film is the second in Lawlor’s Dark Ritual series of cheaply made thrillers. Last year, he teamed up with producers Shawn McLaughlin and Chris “Moose” Woodin to film Aquarius Rising — which is about a small-town sheriff who hires a psychic to solve a gruesome murder in, yep, Lake County. The movie’s production costs came in at around $1,000. “We’ve had bar tabs bigger than that,” laughs Lawlor. With an equally limited budget for Welcome to Cretonville, Lawlor hopes to complete the film in time for a Halloween premiere. He thinks local moviegoers (especially Lake County residents) will relate to the story. “You hear the myths growing up, but nobody takes them seriously,” he says. “It’s a thing to do with your girlfriend or a group of people for a good scare. Scares and high-school kids — you know where that usually leads.”Cris Glaser

Welcome to Cretonville Legend of the Melonheads

Laugh-at-the-Law Productions & ShockStar Studios to produce motion picture based on North East Ohio Legend.

“Welcome to Cretonville: Legend of the Melonheads” Lake County, OH productions company, Laugh-at-the-Law Productions Ltd. announced that it will go forward with it’s second feature movie. This one will be based on the Melonheads, a local legend about deformed, murderous creatures who inhabit the woods in the Kirtland, OH area.

“We have wanted to do this movie for awhile. Everybody in Lake and surrounding counties have grown up on stories of the Melonheads. We will be taking several versions of the legend and combining them into a TRUE horror movie, with slasher elements.”

Written and Directed by Brian C Lawlor, this is the second feature in a series titled: the Dark Ritual Series.

“Where are first feature ‘Aquarius Rising’, was “Based on Possible Events”; and is an ‘occult-thriller’; Cretonville will be a total horror movie playing on the area’s stories of the legend. What did most high school kids do in Lake county??? Go out to melonhead country for a good scare. Well, we want to show everyone what they were hoping to get a glimpse at; we will not be pulling any punches. We want this to be a movie that needs a warning about weak hearts and stomachs.”

Casting for this movie will be in early April. Shooting should start as soon as the weather gets warm. Principle shooting will be done in Lake County, OH and the cast will consist of mainly local talent. You can find out more as this production develops at Laugh-at-the-Law Productions website.

  1. Jeffro responds:

Damn and I know of a guy who wanted to make a movie about this same exact thing. I don’t want to be the nerd in the movie though.

  2. fuzzy responds:

“marching-band nerd” – Darn, sorry I missed it.

    Maybe next time.

  3. shockstar responds:

Actually, Scene Magazine totally blew the interview! Melonheads are not bigfoot like creatures, they are small children deformed into creatures with big heads. And the band geek thing was just one small part of the casting. Will this movie be totally awesome? I doubt it will be Gone with the Wind, but it is looking to be pretty cool. I saw Aquarius Rising-the last movie they did. For a very low budget – it did not look low budget!
