Update: New York Bigfoot Photos

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on June 2nd, 2006

Here are the original photos that the readers of Cryptomundo demanded. They have been cropped for size, but the subject in the thumbnails below is the original size. The zoomed-in version that you get from clicking on the images below were blown up 200%.

Dr. Jeff Meldrum emailed the series of photos that Hans Mobius shot in Clarence, NY on May 27, 2006. The photos were previously discussed here on Cryptomundo yesterday.

Third photo in the series. This is the photo that was originally posted here and in the online newspaper articles. Click on image for zoomed-in version.

It is obvious from these photos that it is not a photoshopped out void in the photos as several readers commented in the original post. You can make out the detail that Jeff Meldrum was quoted as saying:

It’s obviously a man in a suit," said Dr. D. Jeffrey Meldrum, an assistant biological sciences professor at Idaho State University, who specializes in anatomy, evolutionary morphology, primatology and paleontology and has written extensively on Sasquatch footprints. Meldrum pointed out that the head is proportioned like that of a human being. He also pointed out the short, un-apelike arms.

"Look at the forearms," he went on. "There’s not natural taper at the wrist. It looks like a sleeve transitioning into a glove."

The hair, he added, "looks unnatural." "It disperses light like artificial fur would."

He also said that the series of photos show the creature standing in one spot while moving back and forth, rather than quickly running away.

You can now clearly make out the detail that Dr. Meldrum mentioned. You can make out the details of the hand. It even appears that the subject is sporting an Afro.

Are the Cryptomundo readers who questioned the details that Jeff Meldrum saw, able to see those details now?

  1. Arkansan_88 responds:

That is the worst hoax I have ever seen. You can clearly see in the second photo where the glove meets the forearm just as Dr.Meldrum pointed out. Oh and who knew that Bigfoot had an afro.

  2. Ranatemporaria responds:

It looks a little like a photo shoot!
“right now give me scary!, the camera loves you baby!”
    Lol

  3. sharmcos responds:

Looks too much like a man in suit to me. Oh, we can’t see his feet…

  4. akbens responds:

    Tips for hoaxers:
#1. Dirty your suit up a little. This one looks like it came straight from the dry cleaners. Bigfoot is not known for it’s hygene.

#2. If you’re going to go the man-in-suit route could you please get someone that’s a little taller than 5’9 to 6’0? Most reports of this cryptid are at least 7’0, sometimes taller.

  5. catastronaut responds:

Everytime I look at this series of photos, I just imagine a bigfoot standing out in a field…dancing.

    Probably to “Wooly Bully.”

  6. Ole Bub responds:

How many sightings involve BF….driving a John Deere utility cart….hard to hide behind those saplings too…that could be me on a bad hair day….pass the rock salt…LOL

    seeing is believing….hoaxing is hokey

    ole bub and the dawgs

  7. pentagramma responds:

What’s he doing? Dancing the macarena?

  8. cradossk responds:

is it just me or are there a lot of “this is the worst hoax I’ve ever seen” style posts every time a new “bigfoot” photo comes out.

The bar for bad hoaxes must just keep getting lower and lower if this is the case 😛

as for the size… using the cart as a reference, he would be about “7 foot” (you whacky Americans and your insistence on using an ancient system of measurement!) … unless that’s a hill behind the cart… Its early in the morning, my eyes aren’t working properly.

As for the cleanliness of it… dude, it’s all black. I prefer wearing black when i go out so even if my black shirt is filthy, its not as noticeable 😛

Also, its quite possible its just come from having a bath? Hence no dirt?

Either way, its probably a hoax.

  9. LordofShades responds:

Apparently Bigfoot is shorter than we thought and has an afro. I have to admit, though. I would like to see a video of his complete dance routine. What is he doing here? Looks more like a raver with hypertrichosis. This doesn’t even warrant a “nice try”

  10. One Eyed Cat responds:

The left arm in the second photo does clearly show no natural furry arm going into the hand.

I don’t know if this IS the worse but it is an obvious fake when viewed with open eyes.

Maybe someone trying to verify Penn and T’s view? (forgot his name never watch them)

  11. flickerbulbcom responds:

he’s just trying out for an iPod ad

  12. timi_hendrix responds:

I thought he was walking like an Egyptian. lol

  13. flickerbulbcom responds:

    Spoof photo

  14. shovethenos responds:

Looks like it was photoshopped rather than someone using a suit.

They must really underestimate researchers and those interested in this field.

  15. planettom responds:

    Afro-squatch.

  16. rifraft responds:

This is really a waste of time. Better spent on quaility sightings.
    joe

  17. aaha responds:

    It’s Bob Hieronimus!!!

  18. larzker responds:

Why was the June 1st picture so saturated and low quality compared to these?

The guy that took the photos might be honest and have taken a picture of someone playing a hoax on him. It would be interesting to find out if he’d have fallen for someone wearing a paperbag on their head with bigfoot written on it.

  19. Craig Woolheater responds:

The photo on the June 1st entry was taken from the newspaper’s website. Obviously it was a lo-res version that had the contrast adjusted.

I did not receive the hi-res vopies of all three photos until last night. I was on the road to San Antonio for Loren’s and Ben Radford’s presntations and did not arrive until almost 2 AM.

I posted them as soon as I had internet access.

  20. inspector71 responds:

wonderful photography, no visible facial features, love the 70’s afro. looks more like its dancing than starting to run, or he just pulled over to stretch his legs after a long ride around the farm.

  21. Jeremy_Wells responds:

Even with these photos, the image is just too “flat.” I’m still going to go with “blacked out photoshop image” over “man in suit”.
What you are calling the “taper” where the “suit” tucks into the gloves could just as easily be the cuff of a long sleeved shirt that was photoshopped over in a sloppy way. Think about it. You isolate the outline, fill in everything inside the outline with all black using the “paint fill” function and you have exactly this.
I don’t doubt that Dr. Meldrum is seeing the “cuff” as I see it too. I still just think the contrast is too far off for it to be a suit.
So, while I agree that it is a hoax, I’m still leaning toward a photoshop hoax over a “man in a suit” hoax. The interior of the image is just too flat and the outline too crisp.

  22. Cutch responds:

    Wow. Just… wow.

  23. Xeno2814 responds:

I’ve got to say, when I see these pictures I don’t think ‘Sasquatch’, but rather “Strange Cactus dude from Final Fantasy series” You know, the ones that are always in that little running pose? 😛

  24. mcg336 responds:

Funny, but was that a stump in the background moving or not? Kidding!!

  25. twblack responds:

Fake, Fake, Fake and you know what FAKE

  26. Senor Chubba responds:

This could be a product placement stunt for John Deere Gator carts ala the “bigfoot bmw out take” tv commercial video awhile back. I mean assume the suit looked much more believable- then you got ole stinky hiding behind a brand new expensive cart thing in the middle of the photo? Notice it is in the center of all the photos. Please.

  27. sasquatch responds:

Now, to all the idiots who think the P/G film was a hoax- compare any still from that to this. suddenly life is more mysterious isn’t it?

  28. sasquatch responds:

Hey, remember in the “6 million dollar man” bigfoot episode; the bigfoot had an afro. Maybe that’s where these guys got the idea. Or do you think Ben Wallace has taken up the hoaxers mantle from Ray Wallace? Detroit’s not too far from Buffalo, he coulda done it between NBA playoff games.

  29. sasquatch responds:

furthermore…They obviously thought that putting the actor near the cart would be a way to gauge size; so the dude is probably very tall. unfortunately the costume hangs off his skinny frame like wet curtains. Even if the guy has any muscles this shows you how hard it is to get that to translate through costumes; Patty had no trouble at all! Can you imagine a real MALE sasquatch?

  30. Chymo responds:

There is *no* photoshopping in these pix.

The creature shown is a *real* guy in a suit, this is directed @ Jeremy Wells & those who still think something has been ‘blacked out’ in the pictures.

The lack of detail you are seeing is a low-fidelity image/contrast issue, nothing more.

  31. chrisandclauida2 responds:

looks like one of those card board cut outs the set up so tourests can take pictures with. only the computer mixed harry and the hendersons bigfoot with elvis

  32. Stickler responds:

Please………………………Send Bigfoot to my house. I live a few miles from the sighting area in Clarence and I could use the money selling T-shirts,tickets, photos ,posters and any other crap people are willing to spend their money on for stupid stunts such as this. Someone call David Letterman………………………Or maybe Howard Stern

  33. Mnynames responds:

I like the P/G pose from shot #2…either that, or he IS walking like an Egyptian…

  34. DWA responds:

Cool. Tell MTV da maxpied is ready for his closeup!

Someone in the previous thread on this topic asked, if it’s real why did he get only one lousy photo? These aren’t lousy, which is one clue that they’re fake, right there. These are pretty clear pix of a guy in an ape suit, and a John Deere model rendered in more than enough detail for me to approximate a sale price.

NO ONE who didn’t go into the woods with a clear intent to get a shot of a sas will get anything close to one clear one. Same with foxes, wolves and mink. (Deer? Anyone can get a shot of a deer. Um, sometimes heh heh. They’re tame, ferpetesake.) Wildlife photogs don’t grabshoot; they wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and let me know when you get bored and keep waiting….

Why P/G got a good film of a sas was:

    1. They spent the time in the country, looking for one.

    2. They were on horseback. (It’s known that animals aren’t as spooky when you’re on a horse.)

    3. They were lucky enough — and prepared enough — to catch one in the open.

And they still got one of the most maddeningly brief films on record.

With a truly wild animal, you only get one shot. That is, if you wait for it.

  35. shovethenos responds:

    Chymo-

If it’s not a photoshop creation why aren’t there any details within the outline of the figure other than the tractor and weed superimposed over the figure?

There’s no detail within the outline of the figure in any of the pictures, including the last one, where you should be able to make out detail on the left arm, which is facing the camera and closer than the rest of the figure. This tends to indicate that this is a photoshop hoax – these clowns were too cheap to even rent a decent ape or wookie suit.

  36. traveler responds:

my vote is its a blurry deer head…..whos wit me?

  37. Xeno2814 responds:

My vote is that Hans apparently bought the costume from a local store called George and Company two weeks ago, even though he continues to deny it. Apparently the store owner even identifed a picture of Hans as the individual who bought a $125 gorilla costume when a local news station investigated. Naturally, this prompted a flurry of other ‘bigfoot’ photos that were…painful to look at. I never knew female Sasquatch came in neon pink…

  38. shovethenos responds:

If it was a costume it still looks like the did the photoshop fill thing too, because there is no detail within the outlines of any of the figures. (other than the brush superimposed in the one picture)

  39. shumway10973 responds:

a dancing big foot, now I’ve seen it all. ok, an other tip is to work out a way for your elbows to go further down than normal human’s, but it would look better if they did that and then could still bend, good luck. this guy reminds me of an episode of MASH where hawkeye and trapper get gorilla suits in just as burns goes in to ask them to take care of a hernia. a gorilla suit looks the same no matter what.
