Festival of The Big Red Eye

If your taste runs to the eccentric, you might enjoy this outdoor festival today sponsored by Weird New Jersey. What could be better than to stomp around in the country at a festival named for New Jersey’s own local version of Big Foot and the legendary Mark and Mark?

The Big Red Eye

On Saturday, July 9, Fireman Dan’s Sports Lounge in Sussex, NJ will host the first ever Festival of the Big Red Eye. This outdoor event is designed to entertain and inform the world of a Bigfoot type creature that has been known to roam the hills of northern New Jersey. The day will be celebrated with live music, great food, vendors, speakers, and special guests. A documentary film crew, working on an upcoming release, will be on site and Weird NJ will lend a hairy hand for the day’s festivities.

Fireman Dan’s has a newly renovated outdoor area. There is upper deck seating and a full service bar, complete with a cedar log trellis for shade and shelter. There is lawn space for blankets and chairs. Diners can enjoy a full menu and cold beverages.

“It’s the perfect place for this kind of gathering with the best music this side of the Rockies. If Ol’ Red Eye makes an appearance he’ll cry tender tears of joy,” claims Mingo of the Big Boss Sausage.

Rob Moorhead, the DJ on WNNJ 103.7 FM will be the host and Mark and Mark from Weird NJ will be helping out. The festival will be part of a cinematic release from 144 Films. Directing the movie will be the award winning filmmaker, Curt Babcock. Other points of interest will be the unintentional Big Red Eye look alike contest, king and queen of the festival, and monster mating call competitions. Anyone with a story is welcome to contribute.

Fireman Dan’s is located at 766 State Highway 23 in Sussex, NJ. Gates will open at 12 noon and the show will go until 9:45 pm outdoors. At that time the show will continue inside the bar for folks 21 and over. Tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased on bigbosssausage.com. Tickets are non refundable. No pets or coolers please. You must have proof of ID to drink. A FREE shuttle service has been arranged to Fireman Dan’s from a parking facility at the nearby Sussex Airport on Loomis Ave (County Road 639) in Sussex. Parking at Fireman Dan’s will be reserved for bands and event staff.
