Van Meter Visitor Festival

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on September 23rd, 2015

The 112th Anniversary of the Bewildering Week in 1903 celebrated this Saturday, September 26th.

It was a classic rural community that had been carved out of rolling hills covered in thick woods, wheat fields and a winding river when someone first saw something that didn’t belong. The sightings swiftly spiraled from unusual lights acting in unexplained ways, to that of immense 8′ tall creatures with massive bat-like wings. As the nightly encounters of The Van Meter Visitor continued, the creature grew bolder, drawing closer to witnesses revealing more details to the mystery as described with a large single horn jutting out from atop its head, able to emanate blinding light and a strange smell that disoriented witnesses. All the more terrifying…the monster seemed to remain impervious to bullets.

The Visitor Day’s Festival is held on the actual anniversary of when the extraordinary winged beasts were sighted. Be bold – boost your autumn this year by taking in a spooky road trip to small-town-America for fine hospitality, a history lesson wrapped in the most monstrous story you’ll hear all year, grab yourself a glass of The Visitor Drink, and comforting Midwestern food. Explore the ‘what ifs’ life has to offer. As you drive the picturesque countryside that surround Van Meter Iowa, slow your mind, let the daily distractions melt away and imagine what else might really be just beyond our own beliefs.

Embracing one’s history opens up countless new and positive aspects of life. That is what the good people of Van Meter Iowa have done regarding the strange and unexplained events that terrorized the town in the fall of 1903. Introducing others to their own history has allowed the residents of Van Meter Iowa to meet different people, make new friends, and learn about other places from around the world first hand.

  1. Goodfoot responds:

8 feet tall? Theoretically speaking, this could describe a Pterosaur, correct?
