Happy Halloween, Cryptomundians!

Mystery Fish Enhanced

I know what a lot of you do.

Your day sort of starts off slowly, or ends like Sloop in that other Portland. As he says:

So, I’ve been bored at work and stumbled upon lots of weird websites, like Cryptomundo, Forgetomori…Sloop

Research indicates 63% of you, that’s right, you, our audience, are regular visitors to this site. That’s encouraging. I’m glad we are saying enough here of interest to keep you coming back.

How involved and visible are we?

It appears someone coined a name to talk about us, obviously including you, the regulars, this week: Cryptomundians.

A blogster at pauljamesog created the word via this simple opening on Monday:

Not to be outdone by random cryptomundians…pauljamesog

So we are Cryptomundians, humm?

What does that mean, in the scheme of things?

Leave your comments below about what you think a good Cryptomundian should be or do. Always reading the blog in the morning? At work? With a cup of tea? Or late at night, as the African lions are roaring in the background? Critically thinking at your lunch about the latest video or blobsquatch posted here? Figuring out what that mystery fish photo might really be? Wondering if Cryptomundo will have the latest new species news before MSNBC?

Loren Coleman

OMG, that photo again, someone in Malaysia is saying. Hey, give me a break. It’s a national holiday here. Well, at least in my house.

I wish you all well on this Halloween.

At least this year I’ll be home.

Last year, I was flying back from Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, where I’d just given a Halloween slide talk during their “Monster Mash.” (Yes, of course, I mentioned Momo.) This year, I’ll be in Portland.

Ah, better begin a things-to-do list…first, find a manager.

Okay, #2, I have to straighten up the porch in the morning. Eighty people will drop by dark, to ask to come in and pet the Bigfoot.

Later, #3, get a glass of water, as I’m due to be on the radio with Brad Steiger.

#4, win the lottery. Ooops. That’s right. I never buy any tickets.

#5, search for some truly interesting stories for today, instead of the usual re-cycled spooky stuff found everywhere….

Yep, it’s Halloween and my mind is going fast.

Happy Halloween, fellow Cryptomundians! 🙂 I myself am on this site whenever times allows, as i find great enjoyment in reading the articles and discussing cryptozoology with the intelligent, well informed posters here. This is a great site. What do I think a good Cryptomundian should be? First of all, someone with an open mind (although not so open that their brain falls out!). Secondly, someone who is willing to forgo “being right” in order to seriously try to get to the truth, whatever that may be. Third, a person who is willing to engage in open, rational discussion on these topics without flaming or name calling, as well as an ability to hear others opinions whether they disagree or not. And fourth, a willingness to teach others what they know as well as learn new things. These are traits which I feel the vast majority of posters here possess, and I thoroughly enjoy reading everyone’s comments even when I don’t agree. When I log on here, I feel like I am in a way part of a family. I can forget the stresses of the day and just immerse myself in the world of cryptozoology that I love so. We have had some truly great discussions on this site and I am glad to be a part of it. You all make this site great. Long live the Cryptomundians!

  2. SOCALcrypto responds:

I agree with mystery_man. DITTO, this is a wonderful site to be a part of. I have gathered alot of information on this site that keeps me involved in cryptozoology. Thank you Loren, Craig, John, and Rick for all you do to keep this site going. Happy Halloween to all Cryptomundians.

  3. scotsman responds:

I have to say I visit this site everyday when I am at work constantly minimizing the web page so not to get caught by the bosses “wasting my time” on the internet. And I love finding out more about the happenings of the cryptozoological society, I don’t get the “word on the street” as it were from my profession. So I have to get my daily fix from work. Happy Halloween to all you cryptomundians, personally I don’t believe myself to be a cryptomundian simply because I am extremely new to this site and this type of study, the title cryptomundian should be reserved for people who have been here for ages and been into cryptozoology for ages too. I do enjoy mystery_man’s description of intelligent and well informed posters though!

  4. scotsman responds:

Personally I do not believe myself to be a Cryptomundian, simply because I think that title should be reserved for the folks who have been here for long periods of time. Really supported the study of cryptozoology itself and supported this website. I haven’t been into the study of cryptids that long nor have I been on this site very long, although I do visit everysingle day, to make sure I am not missing anything, haha. I do like mystery_man’s description of intelligent and well informed people though!

Happy Halloween to all you Cryptomundians!

  5. Tas responds:

“It appears someone coined a name to talk about us, obviously including you, the regulars, this week: Cryptomundians.
A blogster at pauljamesog created the word”

Yes, I confess, that was me! Indeed nothing better to do one morning that to once again twist and pervert the English language to my own wicked ends.

    “So we are Cryptomundians, humm?
What does that mean, in the scheme of things?”

So what did I mean when I wrote that? (its copyright BTW, 1c per usage, all funds to be donated for research into biological mysteries and unexplained phenomenon)

Its a term I used simply to describe those who dare to believe, those who hope for more and for what could be. People who believe that they is something behind the tales and legends of history. Those who belive in the romance of Science Fiction and the possibility that something of those fantasies could be really with us. Those who are willing to share those beliefs with others and enjoy some intellectual rigor in their discussions rather than accept dogmatic adherence to norms because that it what is done.

Cryptomundians, I salute thee, and I am proud to have coined the phrase 🙂

Yours in a white wine sauce,
    Paul

  6. planettom responds:

Have a spooktacular cryptomundo day everyone! 🙂

  7. bill green responds:

hey loren & everyone HAPPY HALLOWEEN. keep on researching sasquatch & cryptozoology & the unexplained today etc. thanks bill green 🙂

  8. sloop responds:

Wow, thanks for the link & Happy Halloween, Cryptomundians! I enjoy your site and have visited every day, since finding it about a month ago.

  9. DARHOP responds:

Man, mystery_man hit the nail on the head. Direct hit! Again, I couldn’t of said it better myself. So I won’t even try.

    HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!

I’m gonna have me a shirt made that says, I’M A PROUD CRYPTOMUNDIAN!

  10. bucko responds:

Happy Halloween Cryptomundians! Tas, thank you for a name we can all be proud of. This is a great site. I’m glad I found it.

Mr. Coleman, don’t let no mangy bear slow down your day. I gotta wonder if that bear knows all the controversy it’s caused. Surely not, because if it did, it’d have an agent and its own reality show by now.

  11. LongShot responds:

Happy Halloween I have to say I visit the site at least once a day. Helps me keep up with some of the things I care about. Its nice to have a site/group thats looking more towards the truth of things without being cynical of the fact there very well may be creatures out there undiscovered.

  12. cmgrace responds:

I myself visit this site several times a day. I love to participate in and read the discussions or disagreements the other Cryptomundians are having.

You know when I think of Halloween, I don’t think of BF or any of the other major cryptids. Huh. Weird. Oh well.

    Happy Halloween!!

  13. red_pill_junkie responds:

Feliz Halloween y Día de Muertos, mis carnales cryptomundistas!!

I, like many cryptomundians, love to check on this site on a daily basis, during my work schedule I’m embarrased to say

So if I get fired, that should be your biggest compliment guys!

  14. Cryptid Hunt responds:

    HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

  15. AlbertaSasquatch responds:

Mystery Man, You really did hit the nail on the head. I don’t think anyone could have phrased that any better. So do I consider myself a cryptomundian? Definitely! I check the site every day because its the best site out there. Before I found this site I just considered myself a “Sasquatchian” before I came here. Now I consider myself a cryptomundian. Sasquatch was, and still is my passion, but after being on this site for a while I have become interested in all things cryptid. After reading MysteryMans post, I have decided to take part in more of the discussions and be more active on this site. Thanks for the inspiration MM, and a big thanks to Loren, who deserves all of our respect. The same goes for Craig, John and Rick, and all the other unknown people who help this site run so smoothly and efficiently.

    Happy Halloweener

  16. squatch-toba responds:

Hey ‘yal…I check this site every day. Have to…the day just isn’t complete without it!!! Have a spook-tacular day!! ( Be careful of little ones running around tonight!!!)…

  17. graybear responds:

I’m probably not dedicated enough to the Cryptomundian lifestyle to consider myself a true Cryptomundian, even though I access the site daily (when possible–that whole gainful employment thing). So, I guess that I’m an Amateur Cryptomundian. Maybe I should change my name to ACman.
    Happy Samhain, everyone.

  18. Mothmanfan responds:

I don’t know what i would call myself. I know a lot about the Mothman (thus the name “MothmanFan”) but i don’t know many things about Bigfoot, Nessie or the Chupacabra, like sightings.

I do come on the site everyday, though, every once and a while cause Loren is awesome and posts news really quick! Its the only place where i can find info on something quick, since my dad is a huge skeptic and my mom doesn’t know squat about anything I’m talking about most of the times!

  19. planettom responds:

I am proud to be a Cryptomundian!
