Earthquake and Tsunami Warnings Send Alaska Bigfoot Heading for the Hills

In the wake of an earthquake, aftershocks, and a tsunami warning, the village of Sitka (photo above) experienced a series of unknown hairy hominoid sightings.

Earthquake/Tsunami Alert

Recalling that it was already Tuesday morning, January 23, 2018 in Alaska, these are the specifics of the events leading up to the sightings.

On January 23, 2018, at 00:31 AKST, an earthquake occurred in the Gulf of Alaska near Kodiak Island. The earthquake, measured at 7.9 on the moment magnitude scale, was approximately 280 kilometres (170 mi) southeast of Kodiak and happened at a depth of 25 kilometres (16 mi). It was initially measured as a M8.2 event, but later downgraded by the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was felt throughout most of southern Alaska, including the major cities of Anchorage and Fairbanks, and parts of neighboring British Columbia.

The earthquake prompted tsunami warnings and advisories for Alaska, British Columbia, the U.S. West Coast, and Hawaii. Residents in low-lying areas along the Gulf of Alaska and in British Columbia were evacuated to shelters and higher ground. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center later cancelled most of the alerts within four hours of the earthquake, due to the apparent lack of tsunami. The highest recorded waves after the event measured at under 9 inches (230 mm) above tide level on Kodiak Island.

The Investigator and The Hominoids

I was contacted by a local Alaskan investigator, who shared with me that during the recent tsunami warning there, three Native families saw “Bigfoot-like creatures heading up the hills to higher grounds.” Multiple tracks were seen.

The individual, being a Tlingit, was able to “open the door a bit to talk of the following narratives yet also I am aware how knowing these people personally may complicate things as an investigator.”

Due to the private nature of these reports and how closely the investigator (D.A.) works with these people, “The names have been changed to protect these families who wish to remain alone at this time.”

The naming of the actual hairy hominoids being seen is a complex issue. Known mostly as Sasquatch in Canada, the First Peoples use different names for the unknown hairy hominoids throughout Alaska. “Bigfoot are known to the Tlingit people of southeastern Alaska. Some refer to these elusive creatures as Kooshtakaa (Otter Man). Some differentiate between Bigfoot and Kooshtakaa.”

For the purpose of this investigation, D.A. uses both terms ~ Bigfoot and Kooshtakaa ~ interchangeably. It should also be noted that Kooshtakaa is also spelled Kooshdakhaa, Kushtaka, and other ways.

D.A. observes:

Even among modern Tlingit, the topic of Bigfoot is met with respect and sometimes fear. They are known to work xexwaa (magic) in legend.
The Kooshtakaa is an accepted part of their world. The Kooshtakaa is not a topic openly discussed among themselves, let alone with “outsiders.”
