Mass Crazy Croc Sightings

Posted by: Loren Coleman on July 29th, 2011

Crocodilians found in Massachusetts are nothing new, as evidenced by this file photo from that state.

Wildlife officials are on the lookout for an alligator that is rumored to have taken up residence in a Massachusetts pond. Department of Conservation and Recreation officials searched Silver Lake in the Breakheart Reservation park in Saugus on Thursday, July 28, 2011, after two alligators sightings, S.J. Port, spokeswoman for the DCR, told the Boston Globe. No alligators were found.

Port said one sighting was reported on Monday, July 25th, and another sighting was reported in June.

You might wish to avoid swimming in Silver Lake for awhile.

I remember seeing Silver Lake mentioned as a reputed monster lake in the appendix of a sea/lake monster book I read twenty or so years ago. Creatures were categorized by state and Silver Lake was the only entry for Massachusetts. No details were provided and I’ve never seen it referenced anywhere else. As nearly every state seems to have multiple lakes named “Silver”, perhaps it was a misprint.

I wish people would stop dumping exotic pets. Sooner or later someone is going to be killed by one of these reptiles. And look what’s happening in the Everglades with the pythons.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
