Further Adventures of the Garden Yeti

Posted by: Loren Coleman on July 24th, 2008

Cryptomundo buddy Boing Boing’s David Pescovitz received a great acknowledgment for his service to cryptozoology on July 22nd: Design Toscano’s Garden Yeti.

It was presented to him by Nick Philip of the Imaginary Foundation.

Congratulations to David!

BTW, David mentions that his two-and-half year old son Lux was “slightly scared of the creature at first, but then he cautiously walked up, examined him closely, and finally patted him on the head and said ‘Nice Bigfoot! Bigfoot is nice!'”

As an update to the situation with the stolen Bigfoot/Garden Yeti from Niki’s Quick Six, the latest word is that despite hopes it would “come home” soon, it has not been recovered.

Here’s a repeat of the video, regarding that incident:

Loren Coleman About Loren Coleman
Loren Coleman is one of the world’s leading cryptozoologists, some say “the” leading living cryptozoologist. Certainly, he is acknowledged as the current living American researcher and writer who has most popularized cryptozoology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Starting his fieldwork and investigations in 1960, after traveling and trekking extensively in pursuit of cryptozoological mysteries, Coleman began writing to share his experiences in 1969. An honorary member of Ivan T. Sanderson’s Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained in the 1970s, Coleman has been bestowed with similar honorary memberships of the North Idaho College Cryptozoology Club in 1983, and in subsequent years, that of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, CryptoSafari International, and other international organizations. He was also a Life Member and Benefactor of the International Society of Cryptozoology (now-defunct). Loren Coleman’s daily blog, as a member of the Cryptomundo Team, served as an ongoing avenue of communication for the ever-growing body of cryptozoo news from 2005 through 2013. He returned as an infrequent contributor beginning Halloween week of 2015. Coleman is the founder in 2003, and current director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.

My husband gave me one of those for last winter’s Generic Winter Holiday. (When you have a household blended with atheists, Pagans, Jews, and folks who were raised Christian, making the holiday a generic winter gift-giving event with lots of lights and cookies is the best way to go. At least for us….)

Anyway, Mr. Foot, as we call him, sits in pride of place in our foyer at the moment, though we move him around every now and then, just to keep things interesting. He serves to tell every visitor, if they haven’t figured it out already, that the folks who live in our house are just a little bit different.

And my 22 month old loves him. When I pulled him out of the box, as little as she was, she just hugged his leg and patted his foot. To her, he is just a feature of the home landscape.

I sometimes wonder what it will be for her to grow up like that–thinking that everyone knows about Bigfoot and has a statue of him hanging around!

  2. Lightning Orb responds:

Hope those people get there statue back – who would steal Bigfoot, anyway?

  3. EEB responds:

Seems he’s now roaming the woods:
