William Shatner’s Weird or What?

Posted by: Loren Coleman on March 20th, 2011

The Canadian-based History/Discovery program “William Shatner’s Weird or What?” is doing a forthcoming episode on “Monsters.” I am in Point Pleasant today, taping an interview on, well, guess what cryptid?

William Shatner, of course, is best-known from his days on “Star Trek,” but some young people only known him from televised ads.

BTW, “William Shatner’s Weird or What?” is not to be confused with “Weird or Fake?”:

Loren Coleman About Loren Coleman
Loren Coleman is one of the world’s leading cryptozoologists, some say “the” leading living cryptozoologist. Certainly, he is acknowledged as the current living American researcher and writer who has most popularized cryptozoology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Starting his fieldwork and investigations in 1960, after traveling and trekking extensively in pursuit of cryptozoological mysteries, Coleman began writing to share his experiences in 1969. An honorary member of Ivan T. Sanderson’s Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained in the 1970s, Coleman has been bestowed with similar honorary memberships of the North Idaho College Cryptozoology Club in 1983, and in subsequent years, that of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, CryptoSafari International, and other international organizations. He was also a Life Member and Benefactor of the International Society of Cryptozoology (now-defunct). Loren Coleman’s daily blog, as a member of the Cryptomundo Team, served as an ongoing avenue of communication for the ever-growing body of cryptozoo news from 2005 through 2013. He returned as an infrequent contributor beginning Halloween week of 2015. Coleman is the founder in 2003, and current director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.

    This won’t help.

Celebrity hosted television shows always start at square one and they, by necessity, not only try to educate the uninformed public but the host as well.

Let’s hope that every bit of information will not be new to Mister Shatner. If it is we will be forced to endure yet another expose’ centered around a dissection of the Patterson/Gimlin footage. This will be followed by an interminable amount of mugging for the camera.

I’d rather see Jeff Meldrum, Craig Woolheater and Loren Coleman in the field with a fraction of the amount of resources Ghost Hunters bring to an investigation.

Imagine a 30 minutes segment consisting of listening in to good old campfire talk concerning past experiences. Now there’s a conversation into which I’d like to eavesdrop.

MountDesertIslander – Add Kris and Amy from Ghost Hunters to that round table and you’d really have a conversation.

I have a feeling there will be a lot of rehashing for those in the know on the crypto front, but that’s pretty typical. Only a show geared toward crypt-heads would actually just discuss the issue from the body of knowledge available.

But I like Shatner. His stunt in our great state of Iowa a few years back drew a lot of controversy, but he’s got his merits. I’ve watched his latest talk show and like it a lot.

I’ll tune in if I can find it and see what he’s got to say. Of those out there, I’d say if there’s a chance of someone going off the beaten path, it would be him.

On the other hand, maybe he’s trying to one-up Leonard Nimoy for his In Search Of stint…
