Where Does Cryptozoology Live?

Where do cryptozoologists live? Well, all over, of course.

Viperfish

Where does cryptozoology live? If cryptozoology is the study of unknown animals, and one way that people are studying the cryptids is by reading Cryptomundo, part of the answer lies in the statistics revealed in the hits to our site. While we don’t keep personalized information, like the NSA or the CIA might, there are some basic info that is available on what countries are checking in to Cryptomundo.

Where are you from? Millions of people, some days, visit here, to read about the latest in cryptozoology. Some postings can get 1.6 million readers in one day. Some get more. Amazing numbers for a group that just began last October. We are proud of what we do here, and thank you for coming to trust us with getting the latest in breaking news and thoughtful insights on today’s cryptozoology.

You might be surprised to learn that readers of Cryptomundo are from all over the world. There could be people from rural villages in New Zealand to skyscrapers in Singapore. Those kinds of specifics only rest with you. So how about a reflection back in your direction?

Although the United States, needless to say, comes in first as the home of most visitors, a rundown of the other primary points of origin for you – in order of numbers of people visiting – shows a diversity that is intriguing for an English-only site:

United States
Canada
Others
Great Britain
Australia
Germany
Malaysia
Japan
France
New Zealand
Singapore

Let me step aside for a moment then today, and survey you. So, where are you from? Let’s see who is from the most far-flung, and the most mundane locations imaginable. Let’s see how deeply cryptozoology has invaded universities and wildlife organizations and living rooms. We won’t do this kind of thing very often, but, hey, once every six months or so might be fun. So, where are you?

Loren Coleman About Loren Coleman
Loren Coleman is one of the world’s leading cryptozoologists, some say “the” leading living cryptozoologist. Certainly, he is acknowledged as the current living American researcher and writer who has most popularized cryptozoology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Starting his fieldwork and investigations in 1960, after traveling and trekking extensively in pursuit of cryptozoological mysteries, Coleman began writing to share his experiences in 1969. An honorary member of Ivan T. Sanderson’s Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained in the 1970s, Coleman has been bestowed with similar honorary memberships of the North Idaho College Cryptozoology Club in 1983, and in subsequent years, that of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, CryptoSafari International, and other international organizations. He was also a Life Member and Benefactor of the International Society of Cryptozoology (now-defunct). Loren Coleman’s daily blog, as a member of the Cryptomundo Team, served as an ongoing avenue of communication for the ever-growing body of cryptozoo news from 2005 through 2013. He returned as an infrequent contributor beginning Halloween week of 2015. Coleman is the founder in 2003, and current director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.

Suburbs of Seattle, Washington, where a wild bear was just caught in the University district. I’ve had folks tell me that there is no way Bigfoot could exist because something that big couldn’t be hiding in the woods… but a decent sized bear just managed to get from North of Seattle to the University unobserved.

I’m currently looking out my front window at the squirrels frolicking in the rain in my yard. Life is all around us.

    Hello All
I live in downtown Houston,TX. I work in pediatric nursing research. I’m fairly new to Cryptomundo.

I was “bitten” by the crypto-bug as a young boy. When I was little I grew up outside of Alton,IL., and I remember my dad taking me to see the Piasa Bird. That was one of my first exposures to the “mysterious unknown”. For some reason or another, I was always drawn to the library section that contained books about animals, science, and mystery. Found myself reading about thunderbirds and Bigfoot.

I learned about Cryptomundo from listening to George Noory when I used to work the night shift.

Thanks for the blogs Loren, John, Rick, and Craig.

I look forward to hearing more from Malaysia!

    Hello,

John in Bedford, England. “sausage” is my nickname for my daughter. The only unusual wildlife I have seen in six years here comes out of the local nightspots overblown with alcopops. When living in Norfolk both myself, my father and my then father-in-law (a former gamekeeper) saw a large black cat at different times.

No squatches in Addison Park yet, though!

  25. Forever_Elusive responds:

Hey everyone. Galveston, Indiana here. a small hick town out in the middle of nowhere. i would love to live by the ocean though. i am captivated by sea serpents and lake monsters the most. nice to see you in jonesboro twblack! i live near kokomo if you know where that is. i am reading lorens and patricks field guide of lake and sea monsters right now. i would love to know if anyone has had any sightings of the monsters that inhabit loch ness as well. and what you believe about this loch. i am going to school for marine biology and anthropology. i can’t stand it when people deny the theory of evolution as well. science has pretty much proved the bible wrong. i just hope that if the big ‘ole pattyl o’ squatch is found, it will not be harmed and things can go back to normal after initial studying. peace, love, and, sea serpents, keep up the good work bloggers

    -Dustin

  26. superd responds:

The Greater Washington, DC area, where megafauna like lawyers doctors and lobbyists abound; where The Government Herd, a million strong, calves every summer on the coastal plain; and where beavers herons muskrats minks foxes and opossums qualify as cryptids, and occasionally a cat disappears, a probable coyote midnight snack.

Me? I’m rumored to exist. But damn few clear photos. Most think I’m a deer.

  32. earthman responds:

i am currently residing in small rural towns in wisconsin, usa. tecinally i am in the village of royalton, wich is in the township of mukwa, wich has a mailing address of new london. before november i was in fl for 5 years, before that i was in the UP of MI for 6 yrs, before that i was in Colombia, SA…deep in the jungles. i am an assitant manager at a local restaurant. i have into cryptids long before i knew what they were. i have always belived that some dinos still exist, and that there is historical references to them, many biblical(yes i am a creationist) and even in old chinese records. my interest was fueled by living i the jungels and seeing many things that werent supposed to be there.

  36. traveler responds:

wow sorry about that poor spelling and grammar. i am more tired than i thought.

  38. Mnynames responds:

I am the Marine Education Program Counselor for the Atlantic City Aquarium/Ocean Life Center in Historic Gardner’s Basin, Atlantic City, New Jersey. I have had an interest in CZ ever since I can remember, probably greatly aided by my living in Jersey Devil country. I read everything I could on JD growing up, and remain convinced that something is out there…possibly several different somethings (Thunderbirds, Sasquatch, Mystery Kangaroos, etc.). I have been going to college on and off again as best as I am able, and am now just a few credits shy of a degree in History. Every month I devour my Fortean Times, Fate, Discover, Scientific American, and National Geographic, and have been known to regurgitate them on unsuspecting victims. I am quite pleased to have been able to interject a few CZ items into my work/schoolwork. My final presentation for a class on the Pleistocene concerned the continuance of megafauna into historical times, and the possibility that some may still exist today. I was very surprised when my teacher spoke up about American Lions, saying that he had seen a large black cat once in a desolate stretch of Colorado. I am proud to say that amongst the information on local wildlife that can be found on the Ocean Life Center’s computers is an entry on Megalodon, with a list of possible modern sightings, written by me.

  39. NHbigfoot responds:

    Greetings from New Hampshire!

I gained interest in the subject of cryptozoology after watching programs about the loch ness monster and bigfoot. I am very interesting, in fact obsessed by bigfoot. When people think about bigfoot and sasquatch the pacific northwest comes to mind. But we have sightings here and stories dating back to the early 1930’s, and a few sightings in southern New Hampshire going back to the 1970’s.
For lake/sea monster in the New England area as you have probably heard of we have champ of lake Champlain, and the new england sea serpent off the coast of Massachusetts. We also have the dover demon of dover, Massachusetts. The world is full of cryptids and creatures that continue to elude us and remain in the darkness.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
