Disneyland Yetis’ New Look

The Matterhorn at Disneyland in California is familiar to many. It was the first tubular steel roll coaster ride anywhere on Earth, when it opened on June 15, 1959.

Here is the complete ride, with the Abominable Snowmen visible (watch closely, there are three) during the ride.

For several months, the ride has been undergoing a facelift. Too bad that Disneyland didn’t revise the “Snowman” footprint (seen in the clip below) which clearly shows a five-toed, clawed bear track, and not even any attempt to show something like the 1951 Shipton print.

Now, the new green sleighs are being tested for the grand June 15, 2012 reopening.

Sherry Barkas on the appropriately entitled “Happiest Blog on Earth” wrote this: “I’m told the the legendary Abominable Snowman is still there, ready to scare up a few screams from any unsuspecting riders, but sporting a new fur coat. Hey, even an Abominable Snowman needs a wardrobe makeover every now and then.”

I am assuming, just like in nature, there will still be multiple Yetis on the mountain.

What will be revealed on June 15th?
