  1. cryptokellie responds:

A relationship with humans based on what I wonder. As yet, Bigfoot is not a recognized species and no credible observations have been presented in scientific fact. Personally, I feel that Bigfoot could exist but to draw any kind of relationships with humans would be speculative in the extreme. Higher primates share certain relationships and aspects with each other and obviously have kinship in many areas but, it’s a little early to compare anthropological similarities with an animal that as yet doesn’t exist in mainstream science and no parameters of reliable behaviors charted. Lets find one first, prove what it is or isn’t and then go from there.

  2. DWA responds:

This is what I’m hoping for.

The bigfoot skeptics will snigger, anthropology major. (And not note how little academic ammunition they are bringing to the table.)

It’s time to leave them behind; and this is how it is happening. Cindy is part of that next generation of researchers this guy was talking about:

A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it. – Max Planck

It’s gonna happen. May take time, but gonna happen.

  3. Goodfoot responds:

DWA: I totally agree. If there is language, there must be culture, and vice-versa. If they are here, and we are here, it stands to reason, to me at least, that there has to have been interaction between the species.

And guess what? The data is rich with such accounts of interaction. Primates are inherently curious by nature. We seek our kind, and Bigfoots must have sought out interaction in varying ways.

As I continue to maintain, Science (of the capital letter sort) is woefully ill-equipped to study these accounts. We need a different sort of science.

  4. DWA responds:

    Goodfoot:

I think that “culture” is pretty much a misunderstood term by scientists. Animals pretty clearly have it.

“Instinct” is one of the silliest words I ever heard. We are finding out that the vast majority of animal behavior is learned and passed down, which passes the basic definition of “culture” with flying colors. Meanwhile, what informs and implements “instinct” remains deliciously vague. And not particularly becoming scientists, or science.

And we certainly have more than sufficient evidence of interaction and habituation of other species to make one look at such things occuring with sasquatch to be quite possibly a bit more than tall tales, even though I still don’t intend to buy habituator tales that don’t come with proof of what they’re doing.

  5. Becho responds:

Instinct and culture are both important elements of the study of Bigfoot. The idea that we can’t study Bigfoot culture until they’ve been proven to exist is nonsense. Proven to whom?

Christopher Columbus should have delayed his voyage until the Earth was proven to be round. Of course, C.C. believed it was round and set off on his voyage despite the generally accepted notion of the time that the Earth was flat.

I know Bigfoot exists. I have had two encounters with them in the last ten days. Instinctively they are very wary of humans. But what of culture? It is harder to distinguish what is culture and what is instinct unless you study them.

We humans, for instance, are instinctively afraid of snakes. Yet, we can overcome our fears and some of us even have them as pets. So then the owning of snakes becomes a culture to some.

I would call those who pursue the understanding of Sasquatch crypto-anthropologists. But only until they have been proven to exist to the general public. Then those who study them will just be called anthropologists. Which, personally, I am in no hurry to see happen. There are too many yahoo’s out there. I’m referring to the human kind of yahoo’s, of course.
