It’s interesting, but I caught this last week and a friend of mine said this show isn’t exactly new, but aired on another channel a couple of years back. When I looked at the guide on our TV, it listed the show as a “repeat.” However, it’s new to me–so I’ll be watching. Even if the show stinks, Will is always entertaining…

Its interesting seeing William Shatner in a hosting role: Back in the 80’s he hosted a show featuring the unusal and supernatural (fictional stories), including one about a merman. In the show he usually told these stories to children, and the stories were acted out in seperate scenes from the ones showing Shatner. It will be pretty amazing to see how he does on the subject of Cryptids.

Or, better put, can he fill the shoes of In search Of’s Leonard Nemoy?

There’s cryptids out there, Jim, but not as we know them…..

Very disappointed in Gerhard’s suggestion that the Mothman was a ‘negative energy’ apparation of some crazy sort fueled by Native American persecution. Joe Nikell’s owl’s theory seems like Nobel prize material compared to it.

Thanks to everyone who watched Weird or What? with William Shatner on Syfy tonight! Two follow-up points – I misspoke about the ‘Banshee’ of Scotland, I meant to say ‘Skree’. Also, they edited out an important point I made about the location theory – Mothman was mostly sighted at the TNT Area… a place where munitions were being manufactured that ultimately led to the death of many people… thus adding to the negative energy that may have spawned the entity. Just speculating, of course.

I’m also looking forward to hearing what the Cryptomundians thought of the show.

  6. Ken Gerhard responds:

Djwcaw – I fully appreciate that many Cryptomundians shudder at the suggestion of anything supernatural in nature. But, if the descriptions of Mothman are accurate, then it is highly unlikely that we are dealing with a flesh and blood creature. While I am strongly behind the biological reality of cryptids like Bigfoot, Lake Monsters and Thunderbirds, I am also of the opinion that there are things occurring in our Universe that are simply beyond our comprehension. Heuvelmans once wrote that it is not scientific to completely disregard evidence, just because it seems improbable…
