Mothman in Indonesia?

Posted by: Nick Redfern on May 18th, 2012

From Huffington Post:

Is it the work of a holy being, or a homely prankster?

A piece of security video footage taken on September 11 of last year — reportedly at the Cilandak Town Square, which is situated in Jakarta, Indonesia — appears to show what some YouTubers have been describing as an “angel-like spirit” flying into view and leaving in a burst of light only seconds later.

People with flashlights then storm the area where the winged being appeared, seemingly to investigate the strange occurrence.

Some are saying that the video shows an angel — others think the “humanoid” figure might be a visit from another dimension.

“You can see the pulsating. … I think it’s an extraterrestrial,” says the narrator of another YouTube video who dissected the images.

Mothman? Owlman? Angel? Some other winged weirdie? A Hoax? Some sort of not-yet-clear viral ad campaign? A joke?

What do the Cryptomundians think?

  1. CelticBull responds:

    Most definitely CG.
Probably a viral campaign, or a film student project..

  2. CelticBull responds:

    Some additional questions:
    – Why is “it” coming from above but leaving to the side?
    – Why are the “security guards” looking like teenagers?
    – Why are they running to the spot where “it” landed instead of after the creature?

  3. imonacan responds:

Maybe an “Aswang” , that flew over from the Philippines.

  4. Cryptidcrazy responds:

Hoax. Not a very good one, either.

  5. slappy responds:

so an angel/mothman/whatever buzzes a jakarta square and 5 seconds later there are several people with flashlights at the ready looking for it????

    sigh….

  6. Peter Von Berg responds:

Very nicely staged. Great professional job.

  7. springheeledjack responds:

Just too angelic to buy into it…got to be photoshopped and staged.

  8. springheeledjack responds:

I looked at this several times now.

It does look like some sort of dark ring on the floor after it lands and takes off, BUT there’s not enough info to tell for sure.

Who are these four Scoobies and why are they on the scene after security walks through? Purpose and why with flashlights in the first place–that looks shady enough as it is.

Was this just a standard security camera or something set up?

Ain’t buying into it until all of those questions are answered and more. 🙂

  9. Venom responds:

I’d have to say CGI and it’s a poorly done animation at best.

  10. Doug responds:

    CGI would be my guess.

  11. Jexsam responds:

This… couldn’t possibly look more fake. Likely some obscure viral ad for something.

  12. shmargin responds:

So fake looking it hurt my brain. I wish people would quit using youtube to see if their CGI skills are good enough to trick people. Especially when they clearly aren’t.

  13. aargeee responds:

    It’s a ropen!!

  14. red_pill_junkie responds:

The swift appearance of the security guards storming out to the place where the ‘entity’ touched ground –are energy beings constrained by gravity? because why the need to crouch after the angelic fall?– looks staged to me.

And why didn’t the original guard that initially appears walking from left to right join his companions? did he go in pursuit of the angelic intruder? the video makes you think it was just a lone guard doing his rounds at the lobby; it doesn’t make sense to have so many people guarding one single area, unless the rest were standing by at the reception desk.

At the moment I find it fishy, not mothy 😉

  15. lapzod responds:

Nice to see something local for a change…

CelticBull: Security guards here look like teenagers half the time, so that’s not that strange.

Slappy: There’s always a handful of security guards around at the same time. It’s not uncommon to see them standing around smoking.

There’s a balcony opposite this video, where someone could stand with a camera and record this.

As for it being real? Nope.

  16. skeptik responds:

    Easy.

Bouncing fireman falling from burning plane.
