These guys give us the current state of Bigfoot research

HowStuffWorks.com has a video series called Stuff to Blow Your Mind. This video is somewhat current covering both Bryan Sykes DNA study and Dr. Melba Ketchum’s DNA Study.

  1. DWA responds:

Well, to be charitable, I’ll call it: How They Think Stuff Works.

To select only one thing wrong with this video: science NEVER presumes a new idea to be false. Scientists do that; and it has the inevitable result of frequently and badly delaying scientific progress.

    Thanks but no thanks.

  2. springheeledjack responds:

Uh, yeah. I’m not impressed with either of those two. They’ve got so many things wrong…

DWA–yah. Their entire premise is wrong. Science is always exploring theories and go looking for the truth. They do not assume everything is false, but take an idea or theory and start testing it to see how it comes out in the wash.

In their little video they also made assumptions on a variety of things without really knowing what they were talking about:

    1) That Bigfoot is a gigantopithecus–it’s been postulated, but there’s a whole lot of controversy on that topic alone in the Bigfoot community.

    2) There have been no 9ft tall critters discovered recently. Yes on the hairy, no on the size. In 2010 they discovered the monster stingray…and living in a river no less. And how about the last year’s footage of the giant squid…

    3) footprints. Just because several have been proven to be hoaxes and because of “variety” does not disprove all of the castings. Not by a long shot.

I’m getting writers cramp knocking apart all of their arguments so I’m not going further…you get the idea. These two neomaxiezundweebies are taking the same time honored stance as the scoftics: they pick the theories they want (the ones they think they can shoot holes through) and try to denounce the entire thing.

Nothing new here. Nothing new at all. These two aren’t anything more than arm chair scoftics.

Oh, and for the record, true cryptozoologists don’t ASSume and start with the idea that there is a Bigfoot…what they do is the same process as science: they come across this phenomena that is BF, and start looking into it based on eye witness accounts, footprints, personal encounters, etc. and start trying to figure out what the heck is going on. They create theories, test ideas and whittle away at the issue trying to narrow down the possibilities until they do figure out what is going on.

  3. Jonathan Poulsen responds:

There is no proof that the sasquatch doesn’t exist.

  4. DWA responds:

SHJ: not really possible to slag, slander and discredit this vid enough, is it?

If this is how the mainstream actually thinks, my rough but educated estimate is that we know about 50 percent, maximum, of what we would know if scientists maintained the open mind that science REQUIRES. Science is not about facts. It is about INQUIRY.

I still cannot get over that they actually said science presumes a new thesis to be wrong. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT (were I at home I would be shouting this). That is one of the most benighted things I have ever heard presenting itself as science.

Science just found (1) a NEW KNEE LIGAMENT (no dummies it was there all the time) and (2) a twelve-foot, blood-engorged, penis-like organ IN THE ROOF OF THE BOWHEAD WHALE’S MOUTH that no scientist knew was there before!

And this video outlines why they just found it, better than anything else could.

Stuff right in people’s faces goes right past them when it’s “wrong.” We should learn this by the end of first grade.

Right, SHJ. Has anyone ever heard “don’t ASSume…”?

    Apparently no scientist has!

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
