Dominica’s Dead Parrot – A Perfect Picture of Mystery?

Posted by: Karl Shuker on February 23rd, 2014

In various of my books, magazine articles, and ShukerNature blog posts, I have documented a number of mystery birds that have appeared in paintings by famous artists and which may conceivably represent lost species undescribed by science. In recent times, several additional examples have come to my attention, but perhaps the most significant of these is the following one, which may feature a hitherto-unrecognised depiction of a long-extinct bird officially known only from a single verbal description.

Cryptid Olympics

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on February 9th, 2014

In my opinion, he could take a lesson from Bigfoot.

I want to pass on to you a description of our (Creek) Bigfoot which we call Tall Man (Estecvpcvke). He is around 10 feet or a little more in height and is covered in gray hair and has a bad odor which resembles a stagnant muddy pond. His color helps him blend in with the trees.

What Is It?

Posted by: Karl Shuker on May 21st, 2013

Here’s a curious illustration from a medieval bestiary in the Vatican Library. I’ve seen attempts on various websites to identify it as a sea-lion, though its trunk is surely more suggestive of an elephant seal – but what about its hoofed forelimbs?? Weird.
