Bigfoot and Electrical Interference

My latest Mysterious Universe article is one that is sure to elevate the blood-pressure and anger levels of countless cryptozoologists everywhere. The reason: it deals with the possibility that Bigfoot can provoke electrical interference. That’s right: it’s time for lots of irate comments as to why Nick is wrong.

Enjoy!! Or not.

It starts like this:

“In the latter part of 2002 and early 2003, British monster-hunter Jon Downes recalls that, with respect to both him and the staff of his Center for Fortean Zoology, ‘…there occurred a huge “flap” of Big Hairy Men (BHM) sightings throughout the British Isles that we could not afford to ignore and that required our immediate attention. Indeed, such was the scale of this extraordinary wave of encounters that, even as we made firm plans for an expedition in March, a handful of new sightings of large, man-beasts from the Bolam Lake area of Northumberland, England, arrived in our e-mail In-Box in January that prompted us to undertake an immediate study of the evidence.'”

“On a cold, wintry morning shortly afterwards, Jon and his team from the CFZ hit the road, headed north, and the adventure duly began. When the creature craze was at its absolute height, and while he was personally on-site, Jon prepared careful and copious reports, written in an in-depth style that expertly detailed the significant role played by the Center for Fortean Zoology in the bizarre affair of the Beast of Bolam.”

And here’s the full report…

PS: If you’re on blood-pressure meds and are a full-on believer that Bigfoot is just a flesh-and-blood ape and nothing else, pop another pill. You know, just in case…

    Here’s my take:

I’ve read a ton of reports and for the vast majority, many people have encounters, sightings, sounds, smells and the like, but very few supernatural details. There are those accounts where people see a Bigfoot and feel like they are being communicated with or other “weirdness” going on, and I cannot explain all of it.

I am always for keeping an open mind, but that goes both directions. I’ve read accounts of Bigfoots being seen along or within short distances of power lines, but is that something to do with the Bigfoots or something to do with something else altogether. It reminds me of a camping trip to West Virginia I took last year. We drove through mountain areas and there were places where power lines ran over the apex of the mountain and down the sides. There was also a mowed or open trail running down the side of the mountain, along the length of the power lines going from pole to pole. Is it possible that Bigfoots travel those lines just because the terrain is easier?

Sure, is the answer. OR it could be something else. I certainly don’t have all of the answers, but you have to deal with what you can work with. IS it impossible that Bigfoots have some sort of electromagnetic abilities that can short out electrical devices and drain batteries? No, it is not impossible. Having said that, is it likely? From the animals I’ve seen, it’s not common. Electric eels can build a charge to stun prey, and dolphins can use their echolocation to herd fish or even stun them.

The problem is, we don’t know. And I have no problems with people theorizing on possibilities, as long as those theories don’t suddenly become accepted fact without something to support it. There could also be some other force coming into play that affects the electronics that is not related to the Bigfoots. Perhaps some electromagnetic shift in the area–the crows reacted out of character to some stimulus…and who knows, maybe Bigfoots are sensitive and drawn to such things as well.

The above is just a theory too, spit-balling and thinking about possibilities. Doesn’t mean it’s fact or that it’s even in the ballpark. The point is, we can talk theories, and ideas, but in the end, you have to take them with a grain of salt until you can come up with some sort of information to back it up or you can’t say with any certainty that Bigfoots can cause electrical blackouts. Heck, we haven’t even put the existence of BF to rest yet.

Keep an open mind and narrow down the possibilities by what you know for a fact. Eventually the truth will win out, but latching onto a particular theory based on a few reports is a great way to pass over what is really happening.

I thought it was interesting, Nick, and I’m open-minded as to this subject.

My quibble is with the word, “liased”, which singed my chinny-chin-chin hairs. Why, oh WHY, not simply “met”, fer cryin’ out loud?

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
