Black Dogs of the Woods

Posted by: Nick Redfern on August 17th, 2012

Sean Casteel digs deep into the strange saga of the legendary, blazing eyed black dogs of Rendlesham Forest, England – a locale with far more than its fair share of mysteries…

Says Casteel: “They are the demon dogs from hell, the huge black canines with blazing red eyes that haunt country lanes, and the phantom hounds that are regarded by some as Satan’s personal minions.”

For anyone having trouble reading the print, here it is (with updated spelling):

    A strange
    and terrible wonder wrought
very late in the parish church
of Bongay, a town of no great di-
stance from the city of Norwich, name-
ly the fourth of this August, in this year of
our lord 1577. In a great tempest of vi-
olent rain, lightning, and thunder, the
    like whereof hath been ill-
    some [?][seldom] seen.
With the appearance of an horrible sha-
ped thing, sensibly perceived of the
    people then and there
    assembled.
Drawn into a plain method ac-
cording to the written copy [illustrated]
    by Abraham Fleming.

Could’ve taken this out of Islamic text. Black dogs ate not just evil (like regular dogs) but Satan himself.
