Tim Binnall tells us about the latest Binnall of America show:

“Wm. Michael Mott:Caverns, Cauldrons, and Concealed Creatures, 2 Hours, 25 Minutes

“BoA: Audio takes a journey to the underground as we welcome author Wm. Michael Mott for a discussion on his book Caverns, Cauldrons, and Concealed Creatures, which looks at the possibility that there is an entire ecosystem, including nefarious entities, existing beneath the Earth’s surface. In this wide-ranging conversation, we’ll revisit the global historical narrative which tells of this underground world, how so-called ‘ETs’ may very well be homegrown entities deceiving humans, how Bigfoot, elementals, and diminutive esoteric entities, like elves and gnomes, may fit into this ecosystem, as well as much, much more. Plus, we’ll break the 4th wall and discuss the current state of paranormal research and how reality TV has both helped and hindered the quest to solve esoteric mysteries.”

thank you sir that I wanted something new to read on

  2. Alan Clark Huffines via Facebook responds:

That’s a nasty little beastie. But with a scimitar? So these creatures have reached at least the Bronze Age?

  3. Hapa responds:

I remember an episode from the show “Ancient Aliens”, where it was speculated that Sasquatch lived in a deep and miles long cavern system, enabling them to go across country underground, without being seen or hit by a car, only to emerge on occasion to be spotted. I remember the book “True Giants” telling of similar phenomena in some Bigfoot sightings and accounts.

However, what really gets me here is not so much the possibility of Bigfoot being a cavern dwelling life form (a possibility), but an intriguing connection to the Rephaim, a race of Giants mentioned in the Old Testament, consisting of three tribes (Anakim, Emim, Zumim/Zamzumim. See Deuteronomy chapter 2, 9:2, and Genesis 14:5, among many others.). King Og of Bashan, one of these giants, was said to have a bed (back then a single couch you reclined on) that was 13 and a half feet long, 6 feet wide (Deuteronomy 3:11). The word “Rephaim” not only means “Giant”, however, but “Ghosts” or “Dwellers of the underworld”. And one of the cities of Og, Endrei, was partly subterranean. And, it just so happens, Loren Coleman and Mark Hall, in their book “True Giants”, links the Rephaim with the True Giants cryptid category.

Could it be that the reason we do not find neither Sasquatch remains or major evidence for the Rephaim (there have been some over-sized skeletons found, some ancient extra-Biblical records mentioning them, or in some cases at least being like them, but not whole cities of over-sized people) due to the fact that both lived most of their lives underground? Could countless bones and other remains of the Rephaim and Bigfeet await discovery below…?

These are the sort of stories I would have really loved as a kid, and part of me still feels an attraction to them. JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, one of my favorite books growing up, is probably “to blame” for planting the suggestion that whole mysterious worlds and important chapters of history lie concealed underground — sort of like the appeal of ancient Egypt which the Stargate franchise, among others, has capitalized on. Either one can still be reliably drawn upon as material for summertime movies.

In the real world, though? I’m afraid any talk of extensive systems of underground caves relies heavily on a profound lack of knowledge about geology and hydrology, to say nothing of actual experience in caves. Take Mammoth Cave in Kentucky for example. It has more miles of explored cave — I’m not sure what the up-to-date number is, but it’s above 350 — than any other cave system, but this fact has just led to a number of widespread misunderstandings. The caves wind back and forth all through the park, but they don’t go far outside it. And any idea of the cave going all the way through the crust of the Earth (part of the ludicrous-on-so-many-levels hollow Earth theory) ignores the fact that the lower levels are subject to flooding. The connection that is the subject of THE LONGEST CAVE, for example, could not have been made if the water levels had not been unusually low, and even then was almost impossible due to an underground river.

Likewise, yes, my home state of Florida is riddled with caves — almost all of them full of water.

There was a report of huge human like bones discovered in a cave in Georgia (the country not the state) in Dmitri Bayanov’s book “In the footsteps of the Russian snowman” the young men found their way into a secluded cave with an underwater entrance which was covered with huge bones.

  6. Goodfoot responds:

What’s with those rocks? They look hinky to me, whereas the creature actually looks pretty real!

  7. Johnzo responds:

Sheesh, people. I don’t think the article is purporting the photo at the top to be real; it certainly is not. Its from some cheesy roadside attraction. I forget the location. Wisconsin Dells maybe?

  8. Fhqwhgads responds:

@Johnzo — Goodfoot said it looks “pretty real”, which is of course a matter of opinion but is at any rate just praise for the artist. No one said it is either real or anything more than an artistic illustration of the topic of the original post.
