A Creature of the Black Lagoon?

Posted by: Nick Redfern on July 19th, 2012

From the Canadian office of the Center for Fortean Zoology, we are told:

“BC has it’s own version of the Creature from the black lagoon—or does it? Back in August of 1972, the Victoria Daily Times reported that two local teens claimed to have been chased from the beach at Thetis lake near Victoria, British Columbia. The attacker? A 5 foot tall, 120 pound silver scaled humanoid with sharp fins on his head. On August 19, 1972, the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) launched an investigation after teenage boys, 16-year old Robin Flewellyn and 17-year old Gordon Pike, claimed to have been attacked by the creature.”

So, what’s the truth of the strange affair? Here’s the full story…

Harry Trumbore’s drawing of the Thetis Lake Monster in Loren Coleman’s The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates.

Loren talked about newer sightings of this creature here on Cryptomundo earlier this year: 21st Century Thetis Lake Monster Encounters?

I don’t mean to sound full of myself, but I know more about the Thetis Lake Monster mystery than anyone else in the world. I’ve discovered numerous elements relating to the story that would make one scratch their head. Also, I frequently visit Thetis Lake (2 or 3 times per month) with the sole purpose of conducting field research on this animal that may exist (the odds are against it though).

The seventies were a cornucopia of weirdness all the way around. I don’t know if there was something oddball going on or because of shows like In Search Of popping up that got people paying attention to stuff like that, but there was definitely a boom of activity and strange sightings.
