“Yes, this is absolutely true.” –Peter Mayhew responding on Reddit to rumors of requiring protection from Bigfoot hunters while in Chewbacca costume.

On the entertainment/social media/news site reddit.com there is a Today I Learned (TIL) section. On, June 23rd 2015, one of the viral TILs was a post about Peter Mayhew requiring protection.

TIL Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) was required to be accompanied by crewmembers who wore brightly-colored vests while in the forests of the Pacific Northwest filming scenes set on Endor, so as not to be mistaken for Bigfoot and shot.
This is interesting, and definitely viral-worthy, but as a Star Wars nerd I’m pretty sure all the scenes of Endor were shot in Northern California (in the redwood Groves of Marin County and Del Norte County to be exact).

At Bigfoot Lunch Club we were able to get confirmation with a few more details. Read all about it at Peter Mayhew Confirms He Required Bigfoot Protection as Chewbacca.

  1. RandyS responds:

Oh, brother. Who would ever mistake Chewbacca, with his little black puppy-dog nose, for a bigfoot?

    Oh, yeah…

  2. Goodfoot responds:

Why doesn’t Chewbacca carry his own protection? It seems sad that Chewy has to have paid bodyguards.

Maybe he could get Dirty Harry to protect him!
