THE MOTHMAN FESTIVAL OPENS FRIDAY NIGHT WITH FILM PREMIERE

Indie Documentary Premieres at Festival Expected to Attract Over Ten Thousand

This weekend The Mothman Festival once again descends upon downtown Point Pleasant. While the town is no stranger to large crowds of paranormal enthusiasts and fun-seekers alike, this year’s event might push the attendance to record heights. Bolstered by guests from televisions “Mountain Monsters” and a number of high profile authors and personalities the festival is looking for attendees to come by the thousands.

Though the annual festival doesn’t kick off officially until Saturday morning, this year there will be a Friday night “Kick start” to the shindig that includes the first public, big screen showing of the hit independent documentary, The Mothman of Point Pleasant. Members of the film crew will be on hand for a Q&A, and the film’s director, Seth Breedlove, will be speaking prior to the screening. Everything kicks off at 7:00 pmand the prelude to the festival is expected to run around three hours.

Small Town Monsters is the production company behind The Mothman of Point Pleasant. The documentary examines the “13 months that changed history” which occurred when the fabled, red-eyed creature terrorized the town of Point Pleasant, WV in 1966 and 1967. The film has been hailed as the best on the subject by many critics and helped secure a global distribution deal for Small Town Monsters.

When The Mothman of Point Pleasant launched on Amazon in June it quickly shot to the top of the Amazon New Release charts where it remained throughout much of the summer. Made on a shoe-string budget of just $8,000, the film has garnered much attention in national and international media, including being the feature of a Japanese television show shot on location in Point Pleasant back in May. The film’s director will discuss this aspect of the film along with the importance of preserving stories such as Point Pleasant’s Mothman when he gives a talk titled “Turning Monsters into Time Capsules” at the State Theater in downtown Point Pleasant.

Admission is free but it is recommended that attendees arrive early to secure a seat. Small Town Monsters will be on-hand selling copies of their films (including The Mothman of Point Pleasant) along with other merchandise.
