Ultimate Bigfoot Conference

Posted by: Rick Noll on April 26th, 2007

Many things go into setting one of these conferences up, including location, logistics, availability, politics, ideology and entertainment value but I am curious as to what the potential attendees think would make the ultimate line-up of speakers. Doesn’t matter if they are no longer with us…Here is a fun list I would love to see on a Bigfoot Conference bill, off the top of my head an in no particular order:

  • Jane Goodall
  • George Schaller
  • Diane Fossey
  • Russell A. Mittermeier
  • Russell L. Ciochon
  • Rene Dubois
  • Roger Patterson
  • Ivan Sanderson
  • Bernard Heuvelmans
  • Charles Darwin
  • Alfred Wallace
  • William Roe
  • Albert Ostman
  • Debby Myer
  • Tom Slick
  • Jimmy Stewart
  • The Playboy Bunny
  • Peter Matthiessen
  • Fred Beck
  • Teddy Roosevelt
  • Grover Krantz
  • Rene Dahinden
  • Ken Coon
  • Chief Seattle
  • John Green
  • Bob Titmus
  • Lyle Laverty
  • Peter Byrne
  • Ivan Marx
  • Rant Mullens
  • Ray Wallace
  • Paul Freeman
  • David Daegling

OK, this may seem a little over the top but I would pay quite a bit to hear all of these people talking at one place – on one subject… Bigfoot. Can you add someone I forgot? Think about what could be learned from these people so separated by time but linked with knowledge of a mystery spanning many more generations than this. The chemistry that could mixed… I guess if we could get our hands on a time machine and a large hotel with conference room…

  1. Who Me responds:

    You forgot Bigfoot him/herself!

  2. DWA responds:

I would go with all of them. (I’d want numerous Playboy bunnies.)

    But where’s John Bindernagel?

  3. Darkwing2006 responds:

Personally, I wouldn’t really want anyone off that list Rick except for Freeman, Patterson and Gimlin. They produced results where the rest never really did. I would rather have field researchers who are producing results speak at my conference, than academics talking about something no one really knows much about anyway. IMHO

  4. fuzzy responds:

Um, Jimmy Stewart for his interaction with the invisible “Harvey” rabbit, of course, but the Playboy Bunny? Talk about a rarely-seen cryptid!

How about adding the four horsemen of Cryptomundo?

  5. Blue Steel responds:

You might include Autumn Williams – she’s a great speaker.

  6. Judy Green responds:

Let’s see, I didn’t see Rick Noll on that list anywhere! He would definitely be on my list of speakers. I probably would include Frank Hansen on that list as I would like to know the true details of the Minnesota Iceman, as long as we are dreaming, I would like to add that all of the speakers have to tell the absolute truth!
Also, Dr. Helmet Loofs-Wissowa, Terry Cullen, Senator Walter Mondale and Myra Shackley. My list would include others too, but it would take a while to compile! This was a fun exercise.

  7. mystery_man responds:

I find Meldrum to be conspicuously missing here!

  8. Rick Noll responds:

Sorry… my bad… Some people would just be a given I think.

  9. DWA responds:

    Yeah. Autumn Williams, for sure.

I’d want to ask her why the heck she thinks it would be impossible to get a sas video anyone would believe. Put her first.

  10. Loren Coleman responds:

Too bad at least 18 of these people are dead.

  11. chetvaldes responds:

How about the Chester Moore Jr?
    And his band!

  12. Bob Michaels responds:

Frank Buck, David MacDonald, Karl Shuker, Loren Coleman, Jan Sundberg, Peter Kappler, Russell Mittermier, J.I. Pollack.

  13. Rick Noll responds:

With all the fictional books about Bigfoot out there… someone could run with this concept and make an alternate history fictional book on Bigfoot instead of the ones depicting the animal as a monster… maybe as it should have happened instead of how its been going.

A time machine, or a different time line that would have all these people living at the same time, a large conference where all these people gathered and came up with an answer that actually worked the problem… what if Bigfoot was discovered back in 1967. Where would we be now? Would Bigfoot be in zoos? Stuffed in museums? Have rights somewhere in between animal and human? Would they be able to learn and have us teach them how to enter our society? What kind of intelligence would they have? Communication? Culture? Behavior?

Sometimes we are just too close to a subject to see it for what it is. Where it is leading us. How it has altered us. I also think that this road we travel chasing Bigfoot leaves little time for play and creativity, or to see it as such and give others the leeway to pursue as such.

Our perceptions are individual, our science universal.

  14. Bob Michaels responds:

To find the truth we have to throw out our preconceptions and let the facts lead us to the Answer it`s out there, starting in Asia Continuing in North America. The examination of the Paleoanthropology, primatology Archaeology as to the myths of the First Nation peoples. The current databases of sightings and footprints is what we have now.
It`s time to obtain some physical evidence and let the naysayers be damned

  15. joppa responds:

I would include some early explorers, including Bering, De Soto, Lewis & Clark, Daniel Boone, Frasier, McKenzie, Fr. Sierra. as well as some of those unnamed French voyagers who probed the deep interior of North America. I would like to hear their early observations and what they may have heard from the Native American peoples.

  16. Rick Noll responds:

Wouldn’t be cool to also talk with some early trappers… dang nabit.

  17. Rick Noll responds:

Jimmy Stewart was included because he interacted with Peter Byrne when they smuggled a piece of a supposed Yeti hand (a finger in fact) out of a monastery.

    The Playboy bunny… Redwoods video.

  18. silvereagle responds:

Since Stephen Hawking was omitted, make that the “Ultimate Head in the Sand, Flesh & Blood 24/7 Bigfoot Conference!” Of course the ultimate question to be asked at the Ultimate Conference, and stumbled upon by all, “Why haven’t we come up with proof by now?” The most common and preapproved answer will be “because we still don’t have enough eyes out there”. But the real answer will be that, “we have enough eyes out there, except if we had just listened to what the native Americans have been saying for the last 2000 years, they are spirit people of another dimension”.
