Cryptomundian Redrose999 just tipped me off to this shocking news!

The Discovery Channel is finally acknowledging the Alaskan Cadborosaurus video footage!

Alaskan Monster Hunt will premiere Tuesday, July 19, at 10 p.m. after a new episode of Deadliest Catch.

This footage has been discussed here on Cryptomundo probably even more than Finding Bigfoot!

Exclusive: First Look at New Deadliest Catch Spin-off Special

Two of Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch captains are trading crab fishing for a different kind of prey: Sea monsters. Brothers Johnathan Hillstrand and Andy Hillstrand have signed on to star in the special Alaskan Monster Hunt, which airs next month.

Alaskan Monster Hunt will follow the Hillstrand brothers as they search for clues to the mystery of Alaska’s own version of the Loch Ness Monster. The brothers — normally the captains of the Time Bandit, as seen on Deadliest Catch — travel to sea after viewing footage of an unusually shaped eel-like creature dipping in and out of the water.

Cameras will follow the Hillstrands as they hunt the sea monster, which cryptozoologist Dr. Paul LeBlond of the University of British Columbia says could be a prehistoric sea animal long thought to be extinct.

Alaskan Monster Hunt will premiere Tuesday, July 19, at 10 p.m. after a new episode of Deadliest Catch.

Awesome, look forward, been hearing about it for some time.

  2. j_porter responds:

    Finally!!

  3. NiceGuyJon responds:

All I can say is WOW! My initial excitement aside, this trailer brings me mixed emotions. First of all, I have never seen a single minute of Deadliest Catch and have no idea who these guys are. I have been waiting and growing more and more insanely frustrated knowing this footage was out there, and Discovery was just sitting on it. I knew that meant they were doing some kind of production, and I was fairly certain that if they paid a significant amount of money that must mean that the footage is pretty substantial.

However, now it seems as though the money- which I assumed was an indication as to the quality of the footage- was actually just an indication that it’s enough for Discovery to see the potential for a TV series. Monsters seem to be in right now, and Discovery is not going to let it pass.

I can’t help but get a Finding Bigfoot vibe from this. Of course, that could just be because the sensationalistic BS that is Finding Bigfoot is still fresh in my mind, so I will not make any assumptions about this and instead will positively and anxiously await the premier. I’m just happy to hear that we are finally going to see the footage!

What a great time to by a crypto-head… potential caddy footage, the substantial claims of the Erickson Project, I can’t help but get the feeling that we will soon have our generation’s coelacanth (or better)!

  4. Redrose999 responds:

Me too. Big Squee! Love the Hillstrand brothers too!

  5. Kahil Nettleton responds:

Hopefully they approach this scientifically….and hopefully this footage isn’t another one of those blurry cam type things. Would be great to have a new piece of evidence that is difficult to explain away.

  6. Derek Hayes via Facebook responds:

    Finally!

  7. Redrose999 responds:

    @ Kahil

These are the Hillstrand brothers, they are professional crab fishermen using semiautomatics, there is no science, just tack and reel, explosives, and guns and likely a lot more fun to watch than Matt Moneymaker. Now, with that said, watch them shoot the thing up and bring in a body and mount the head on the front of the Time Bandit. That’s science for ya.

  8. Crypto_Don responds:

I don’t know if they’re serious about finding a cryptid, but I’ve watched these two a lot on the Deadliest Catch and one thing I can say; It will be damn entertaining!

  9. Kevin Webb via Facebook responds:

    Very Cool!!!!

  10. flame821 responds:

Unfortunately I do not see them approaching this scientifically, not unless they bring in extra people. I have watched (and surprising myself) enjoyed Deadliest Catch. It is a well done show. Much more along the lines of a reality show but with ‘real’ characters, not manufactured drama. People have died on this show as that is part of the risks of their jobs and yes, when Captain Phil died of the same condition his mother had just succumbed to, I admit I cried like it was my own family member, you do get that invested in this show and the crews.

My best guess is this will be ‘redneck’ entertainment as the Hillstrand brothers are outspoken, outrageous and extremely funny. Think ‘Jackass’ but with a heart and plot. I’ll give it a go and make my judgments from there, but I am very excited to see what this footage shows (finally). To be honest I’m not expecting anything earth shattering, but I do expect it to be quite the topic of debate as soon as the episode is over.

  11. TimmyRyan65 responds:

It’s About Time!!!!! See now griping, pettiness & namecalling here like on the Bigfoot talkbacks! Real proof coming! Evidence of Caddy is solid. More solid than Bigfoot. And no P.T. Barnum characters to muddy the waters. It will be soon before Caddy crosses the line from fringe myth to National Geographic article! Woo Hoo!!!!

  12. TimmyRyan65 responds:

Oooooops! I meant NO griping, pettiness & namecalling here like on the Bigfoot talkbacks! Sorry! I am just excited!

  13. Tim Ryan via Facebook responds:

It’s about time. Although the trailer does kind of give it a goofy spin. 🙁 If this footage is as good as they say it is, then it should have had it’s own special without the goofiness.

  14. Kris responds:

This is great news, I cannot wait! Glad to hear Paul LeBlond is involved!

  15. Kristyn Shreve via Facebook responds:

Finally! Glad to hear Paul LeBlond is involved!

  16. Redrose999 responds:

On a more serious note: with all the lawsuit stuff and non disclosure that followed this production, I suspect the Hillstrand brothers and Discovery took this Crypid sighting pretty seriously. So I think the show will be a mixture of Hillstand Brother fun, mixed with serious cryptid stuff. But I wouldn’t take them seriously as scientists, perhaps some of the people working with them will be, which I do hope to see in light of the fact that we’ve waited so long for this footage. Anyway, I’m sure it will be entertaining at least.

  17. springheeledjack responds:

Uh, yeah, I think “Scientific” went out the window after firing guns into the water and using dynamite…

However, I’m gunning to see this footage and see where it all goes. Should be explosive…

  18. mrdark responds:

My prediction: they’ll milk the hell out of this series where they look for the cadborosaures, then on the finale, they’ll show the tape we’ve all wanted to see in it’s entirety. In short, the network will milk it for all the money it’s worth before the payoff, in case someone shows up and finds a way to explain or dismiss the film. Smart move, but anyone hoping for a scientific exploration is likely out of luck. Me? I don’t care. I just want to see the damn footage already.

  19. flame821 responds:

I have higher hopes since this is on Discovery Channel. Granted Discovery owns Animal Planet but they also play host to Mythbusters, Human Planet, Planet Earth and Dirty Jobs.

So many of their shows are entertaining AND educational. It would be fabulous if they got Jamie or Adam to help with the ‘recreation attempts’ on this new show. Maybe drag Jeremy Wade in to evaluate the chances of it being a large sturgeon or other large-bodied fish. The possibilities are truly endless.

Do we have any idea how many episodes have been filmed? It seems they got the footage ages ago so I’m not sure when or how many episodes are in the can or if they just held onto the footage until they found a vehicle they wanted to feature it in.

  20. korollocke responds:

I was excited till I saw the trailer, more cornball crap…OH SMEGGING JOY! What happened to Discovery? River Monsters is serious and still very entertaining plus the added bonus we actually see the river monsters up close! But all this goofy crap will drag sea monsters down the way Finding Bigfoot has dragged Bigfoot down.

  21. Macleod responds:

I hope that footage of the converging waves and ripples in the water was not THE video. Couldn’t be, right? I cannot wait to see this. Deadliest Catch is one of my favorite shows. The Hillstrands are not my favorite of the bunch, but whatever, I just want to see this footage.

  22. ntolman responds:

“Cadborosaurus” How do you know that? This is a huge assumption.

  23. Barrons responds:

After watching the trailer I am a bit worried and disgusted, if it is in fact a new species why are they shooting guns into the water and using dynamite? I am as excited as the next person to see the actual footage of the creatures, but as it stands now, it looks like they are actually ‘hunting’ it instead of trying to prove it exists and that is not entertainment. I always thought we would strive to protect these creatures, not harm them. I hope I am wrong, but we’ll see and shame on discovery channel for this new show if I’m right.

  24. John Kirk responds:

Well fellow Cryptomundians. I am am excited and horrified that this is finally going to air. Excited because now it is possible that they will show the footage that Paul Leblond and I viewed and horrified because I see guns and explosions. I don’t think that they got anywhere near the Cadborosaurus-like creatures we witnessed so the guns and bangs are hype.

Nobody else has seen the creatures in that area since. In fact, the last Caddy sightings in Alaska were reported in Ketchikan in 2010 quite a way from the Nushagak Bay footage as I have now entitled it took place in 2008. On that occasion two families saw two of the animals and they witnessed them come ahsore briefly before entering the water.

All I can say is they better do a good job. The parts they show in the above video are just teasers, there’s way better sequences than they have tantalized us with. If they show the footage with the enhancements done by Captain KN and his crew who filmed it as Paul and I have seen it then it will be mind-blowing.

At last everybody is going to get at least a look at what I say is probably a whole pod of Caddys. Let’s hope they do this justice amigos or I am going to complain like there is no tomorrow. I hope and pray that we get the best of this precious footage.

  25. steelcut responds:

OMG – some fishing rednecks on a lake. This is going to be more than stupid. What a waste of time.

I can’t hear the word “monster” anymore..

  26. andyd responds:

Thank god!! Finally!! I’ve been waiting my whole life for some Patterson type sea monster footage. The show will be a joke, it will be these two gentlemen running around liquored up dropping F bombs. It’s the footage I am excited about!

  27. Richard888 responds:

The Hillstrand brothers look like an environmental disaster.

Even if the trailer is pure hype and what is shown has nothing to do with the actual investigation, there is something distressing about the use of guns, explosions and loud motorboats in a pristine place like Alaska.

As for the teaser within the teaser, I wonder if it is part of the actual footage and what it shows is the mystery creature.

  28. HulkSmashNow responds:

Looks like we’ll see two minutes of actual monster footage, and fifty-eight to one hundred and eighteen minutes of two idiots cussing at each other and blowing up lake water.

  29. sonofthedestroyer responds:

    Moment of truth.

I would be surprised if they show the footage in its entirety. Knowing the coverup nature of the mainstream media and who they serve.

But I would love to be wrong. I want to see this cryptid!!!

  30. dharkheart responds:

This new program shows promise. I like ‘Deadliest Catch’ and the Hilstrands. Since Phil Harris passed away, they’re two of the reasons I still watch the show. It appears both brothers are as intense in their search for Caddy as they are while crabbing. I enjoy their zeal and look forward to seeing the film of the beast(s).

  31. stickyum responds:

Great News! We Cryptomundians should all “High Five” each other for putting tremendous pressure on Discovery Channel to finally airing this important cryptid discovery. Of course, the Cadborosaures may not be amused by the use of guns, explosions and a dash of humorous-mayhem at their peril, but unfortunately, America’s “Rednecks” will love it. And that my friends helps to keep their ratings high and their advertisers happy! So wouldn’t it be great fun if, as a sequel to Finding Bigfoot, adding a new series of cryptid shows called, ” The Hillstrand brothers & The Bigfoots Search For The Definitive Truth About Matt Moneymaker & Tom Biscardi”. LOL

  32. whiteriverfisherman responds:

I guess we will see what they show us. I have a feeling the images will disappointing but I sure hope they prove me wrong.

  33. Redrose999 responds:

The Hillstrand brothers may be good old boys, but they’re decent people. Keep in mind the name of the original production was Hillstranded, then the law suit happened. I don’t think it was intended to follow a Cryptid Angle. They likely did a lot of “John and Andy” being wild crazy guys for the original production.

So before folks get all worried, and disappointed take that into consideration. Also remember, the Hillstrand brothers have been around doing shows for a while. They will likely have more creative control over what they are doing. And they’re not scientists, they are two really good guys, playing the bad boy angle, who give a large amount of what they make to Children’s cancer funds, Autistic research and fishermen’s widows association. Whatever they made doing this show, likely did not go into their pockets but into some charity. This is why the Lawsuit would have tanked them into selling their boat.

I think they are gunning for the Catch audience too. Anyway, I look forward to the footage. I’m not sure how the is going to pan out, but it should be cool.

  34. mandors responds:

I share others concerns about the scientific approach. Then again, we’ve had scientists looking for Sasquatch all over this country with mixed to meager results. Maybe professional fisherman will have more success in finding or catching a “sea monster.” That’s not to say Bigfoot hunters should really be “hunters” per se. Given that choice, I’d rather not know.

Regardless, it’s great Discovery is putting on the footage. To Cryptomundians who pressured them, good work!

  35. red_pill_junkie responds:

It’s Science …done the AMERICAN way

    *KABLAM!!*

    😉

  36. TimmyRyan65 responds:

Just posting one nice still photo will go a long way! Hype the crap out of it! This should be big news if the footage really is that good!

  37. wrexham responds:

“If there’s a sea monster, in our back yard… I’m gettin it”.

That’s what worries me the most to be honest and always has. Ever since I was a child first hearing of the ‘loch ness monster’ etc, I’ve instantly had a voice inside my head asking, ‘I wonder how long before someone kills it for fun or “sport”‘.
The whole obtaining a specimen for science thing is relatively understandable, without a carcass or living specimen it’s hard to verify the existence or something, but this trailor with multiple gun shots and explosions just reveals that the show is going to be cow-boy style and of no scientific value at all.
I find it hard to believe that if this footage is really as great as people have said it is, that even the discovery channel would waste it in an entertainment form of show rather than an informative one. I wait holding my breath, knowing that when this finally comes out I’m going to be as disappointed as I have been for years and years with so-called ‘evidence and discoveries’ being nothing more than hoaxes or poor footage.

  38. Mibs responds:

I hate to sound cynical, but I can see this episode dragging out for 58 minutes and when we finally see the footage it will bear a great resemblance to the supposed “Muck Monster” of Florida.

I still think that if the footage is as intriguing as Kirk has relayed here then Discovery Channel is not doing justice to the footage.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
