Actually, it has been done. Read.

And Michael is right. As an amateur he doesn’t have to do a damn thing. This is on professional scientists who can get to this information as easily as you or me; who have studies like this one to review and refute, if they can (hint: they can’t); and whose unrelenting hostility to the topic has us where we are.

You denialist scientists are not required to drop everything and go research bigfoot. As scientists, however, you are required by your profession to drop the hostility and take up what John Bindernagel has rightly called your responsibility to address this subject. You must either refute Bindernagel, Meldrum and Krantz – or Schaller and Goodall, who understand their responsibility and outshine you by far – or you must throw open the gates of science to the topic by following their lead. How easy is this? Watch: I have an open mind on this topic. The evidence is intriguing; and any enterprising grad student who comes to me with a thesis on this topic that shows proper application of their training to the evidence has my attention.

    Didn’t hurt. Did it.

Sitting on your hands and insisting that amateurs bring you proof before you get off them is dodging your responsibility. You are being lectured here, and being told that you do NOT want to wait until the proof is in to endure the embarrassment of your professional lives. The evidence says that day is coming, sooner and not later.

    Off soapbox.
