Bigfoot Movie Collections on DVD

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on April 29th, 2006

For those wanting to add some "classic" Bigfoot films on DVD to their collections, there are some great deals available on Amazon.com.

Released last year by Image Entertainment was the Sasquatch Horror Triple Feature which includes Sasquatch: The Legend of Bigfoot. Many people remember seeing this film in theaters in the 70’s. It was filmed as a documentary of an expedition to find Bigfoot in the Three Sisters Wilderness area of Central Oregon. It also features recreations of the Ape Canyon attack of 1924 and the Baumann tale. Snow Creature and Snow Beast are also featured on the single DVD.

Sasquatch Horror

We were tipped off by Cryptomundo reader starhunter that Image Entertainment will be releasing another collection soon, Bigfoot Terror. This collection has "4 Blood-Freezing Features", including Shriek of the Mutilated, Search for the Beast, Ivan Marx’s Legend of Bigfoot and Capture of Bigfoot.

Bigfoot Terror

Bigfoot Terror will be released on June 20, 2006, but it is available now for pre-order on Amazon.com.

Both of these multi-movie DVD collections are only $17.99 each on Amazon.com. That’s quite a bit of Bigfoot bang for the buck. Heck, order them both together and Amazon.com will ship them for free!

Just wanted to point out that you shouldn’t expect pristine picture quality on these sets. On the “Sasquatch Horror” collection, “Sasquatch” probably fairs the best, and looks about how it did when shown on television in the late 70’s/early 80’s. It’s very difficult to find this movie in any format outside this collection. “Snow Creature” has been cobbled together from several sources in order to make the feature as complete as possible. Some of these sources are better than others, but as one of the first yeti movies, I appreciated seeing the movie without the cuts that seem to always occur in these movies. “Snowbeast” is a made-for-TV movie from 1977 that has somehow entered the public domain. It appears on a number of PD movie compilations, and usually looks like it does here. It’s a bit washed out, but watchable.

This collection is worth the price just for “Sasquatch”, so if you buy it just for that movie, you can consider the other two as “bonus features”.

I am looking for some movies which are more realistic and did scared the living crap out of me. I’m sure you’ve seen it before. Boggy Creek, it’s about a swamp creature known as either a bigfoot or skunkape. I do have the VCR of part 1 but didn’t they make part 2?????

The version of Sasquatch: the legend of bigfoot that is available on the Sasquatch Horror DVD is a great find. I’ve owned the original VHS release, as well as others such as the DVD from BijouFlix and this version tops them all.

This version of Sasquatch is shown in full widescreen format, unlike others which are pan-and-scan. The quality of the print is also very, very good. Even having owned and watched the movie when it was first released on VHS all those years ago, I had no idea the colors were so good. This version is a must have for any fan of the 70’s era monster flix, or bigfoot fans. The quality is more than I could hope for on a thirty-year old independent film release.

I have a question I need help with.

Back in the ’70’s when I was a kid I remember watching a movie about bigfoot on afternoon TV. It was a movie filled with re-enactments of different bigfoot sightings. I have no idea what it was called and I need help. What I remember about this particular movie was that there was a re-enactment of a group of bigfoots attacking a cabin. If I remember correctly one of the hunters/miners had shot a bigfoot and that evening a family of bigfoot were hurling rocks and boulders down from the top of a cliff onto the cabin below.

Does anyone know what this movie is called?

Another bigfoot story I remember seeing which may or may not have been in this movie involved a babysitter/big sister watching a little kid. In the scene I remember she was watching TV in front of a big picture window. She heard a noise outside and opened the drapes and bam there was a bigfoot right there staring in! Scared me to death as a kid. This was also a re-enactment of a reported bigfoot sighting, that’s why I think it was in the same movie. If not what is the name of that movie also?

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

  6. midwestbeliever responds:

I have the same question as Carbotime. I have seen this movie as well. I think it is either from the very late 60’s or early 70’s. It reenacts the Ruby Creek incident along with several others.

  7. CryptoHaus_Press responds:

re: movie wherein miners are attacked in their camp.

more than likely you’re referring to SASQUATCH, THE LEGEND OF BIGFOOT. it is filled with accurate, fact-based sightings and encounters and this sequence is one of the film’s scariest.

of course, the infamous incident has been recreated in other films, but i’d bet you a Netflix rental this is the one you’re looking for.

(a full disclosure: i’m the distributor of one version via BijouFlix and get this question a lot from buyers who also don’t remember the title and when they get the film write back with variations on: ‘yes, THIS is it! thanks!’)

  8. IndianaMom responds:

No it is not SASQUATCH, THE LEGEND OF BIGFOOT. I own this movie. I saw the same movie as midwestbeliever and cabotime in a theater in the late 60’s or early 70’s but before Boggy Creek was released in ’72. This movie was somewhat of a documentary but the Ruby Creek segment was “movie like” – I have not been able to locate this movie (I think I have bought every other one out there…)

  9. ccdphoenix responds:

    I saw the movie as well. As a young boy my friends and I went to the movie theatre and saw this movie. There were re-enactments of bigfoot sightings. For exampe;
    1. A group of hunters were at a campsite around a the fire. The bigfoot attacked them.
    2. A fisherman was collecting his fishing nets at night. While in his boat he flashed a light onto shore to see bifoot eating fish from his net.
    3. A child was walking along the tree-lines when he turned he was chased by bigfoot across a long field back to the house.
    4. A woman watching television saw a shadow in the drapes. Opened the front door to see bigfoot.

These were some of the numerous re-enacted sightings in the movie. I have been trying to find this movie as well. I thought that the name was “Sasquatch”. Just one name.
