Giganto: The Real King Kong

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on November 29th, 2005

Brought to you by the same people that produced Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science, is their followup documentary Giganto: The Real King Kong. Whitewolf Entertainment and Doug Hajicek further the case that Gigantopithecus may be the ancestor of Bigfoot.

Giganto premieres on the History Channel Thursday, December 15, 2005 at 9 PM ET/8 PM CST and re-airs that night at 12 AM ET/11 PM CST.

An exploration of the Giganto (King Kong) legend using modern science, technology, and historic eyewitness accounts. Gigantopithecus (the Latin term for "Giant Ape") is believed to have existed 9 to 5-million years ago and supposedly was around 10-feet tall. Some fossil evidence shows that it may have lived in China or India. Scientists of varying fields will attempt to genetically connect Giganto to modern-day creatures from around the world. Could Bigfoot be a relative? Forensic testing, extensive scientific research, 3-D animation, and body reconstruction will help determine the true mystery behind this prehistoric ape.

I’ve always been interested in Gigantopithecus Blackii, as there really are no specifics or information whatsoever on this animal. My biggest question is whether or not it was a vegetarian, like modern day apes tend to be, or an omnivore like our long armed cousins the chimps. Probably seems silly to want just that little bit of info on it, but thats really my only question about them. Hope the show can tell me!

I quite enjoyed Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science. Looking forward to this new endeavour.
