Provo Canyon Bigfoot Encounter?

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on October 30th, 2012

This video showed up on youtube today, filmed in Utah.

We went camping in Provo Canyon (near Squaw Peak and Little Rock Canyon Overlook) and saw some deer up on a hill that we wanted to get a closer look at. On our way up, we thought we saw a bear, until the monster stood up and looked right at us. We ran straight to the car after that, leaving our tent and everything behind. It’s probably all still up there.

We have lots of other videos from our camping trip that day that we’ll post soon, including the deer and hiking up towards them.Published on Oct 30, 2012 by Beard Card

  1. DWA responds:

    It’s been 45 years, gang.

Somebody must know how to shoot a good fake by now.

    But clearly, not this bunch.

  2. Desertdweller responds:

My impression on watching this is that I have seen it here before.
A year or so ago was a video so close to this one it may have been the same one.

All the elements are the same: shooting uphill at an animal in the trees just below the crest of a ridge. Initially identified by the photographer as a bear. Distance and camera angle the same. I think even the fall foliage the same.

If this is not the same video, it is strikingly similar.

  3. Hambone responds:

Trick or treaters out early this year..

  4. PhotoExpert responds:

Fake! Too many red flags for me. And I am agreement with the comments above my comment here.

First of all they are kids. Kids are always trying to get attention, even if it is negative attention.

Secondly, judging by the clothes they are wearing at the beginning of the video, they are not seasoned outdoorsman. Seriously, tennis shoes instead of hiking shoes? Because of this fact, I doubt they would be moving closer to anything that they thought might be a bear. It goes against common sense. You would either be scared to death, in awe and wanting to see more.

Thirdly, bear or no bear, the alleged creature is moving away from them, not towards them. So why run? Unless of course you want to be dramatic and add some fear factor to your fake clip.

Fourthly, the height did not seem to make the alleged creature that tall. It is maybe 5.5 feet to 6 feet at best.\

Fifthly, the video starts off pointing at the ground and immediately focuses on the area in question. This could be explained away if they saw something and were in the process of pulling out a camera. I would have to compare the style of this video to their other videos and see if it keeps the same style. But it almost seems scripted to me.

Lastly, I am not sure what they were filming except that the tone of the hair or fur was consistent from top to bottom. Seriously, this is highly unlikely in nature due to ultraviolet exposure changing the color of the fur or hair somewhere on the creature’s body. However, the constant color tone is what we would expect to see in the fabric of a cheaply made suit.

  5. Matthew Pfeifer via Facebook responds:

Interesting. Definitely not a bear. Maybe a guy in a suit.

  6. mandors responds:

“until the monster stood up and looked right at us.”

That’s not what happened. It walked away. I also agree with others that it’s strange that the shooter immediately focuses on the spot where the thing is with no need to pan. (CUT! Take four!)

That said, it’s a pretty good suit, if it is, and the figure looks like about half a dozen “good” videos. I’ll say it again, if bigfoot does exist it has the unfortunate natural resemblance to a big dumb guy in a suit.

  7. alan borky responds:

    Count Squatchula

Craig either these guys’ve caught a perfect example of Nick Redfern’s Metaphysical Mountain Man type Sasquatch ie one exhibiting paranormal powers [an idea by the way I’m perfectly comfortable with myself] or they’ve been watching too many Bela Lugosi horror films for Halloween because whatever that is in the thicket at the very end after it abruptly rises to its feet it expands and fills out like a diffused black cloud then reconforms in a more classic curled fists/expanded arms Squatch pose exactly the same way the cartoon bats in those movies flap into view expand down to the ground like black curtains then finally transform into Dracula himself.

  8. Goodfoot responds:

All blob, no squatch. Goldurned kids!!!

  9. Cryptidcrazy responds:

That my friends, is a black bear.

  10. squatchman responds:

Nice Halloween constume!! It’s a hoax!! That was not a squatch-like behavior.

  11. Goodfoot responds:

And “squatch-like behavior” is what, exactly? ;p

  12. Goodfoot responds:

It stood up on cue. Bears aren’t good at that. Ho-ho-hoax. BOO!!!

  13. dconstrukt responds:

    initial reaction?

    its not a bigfoot.

why would they be shooting a video right at it?

why would this thing be exposed in daylight?

why would this thing let them get so close?

lots of questions with this video…. leads me to think its a fake or a bear.

  14. DWA responds:

donstrukt: fake. But not for the reasons you allege.

why would they be shooting a video right at it?

(Um, more interesting than shooting one right away from it. This way you, you know, actually see it.)

why would this thing be exposed in daylight?

(Many sighting reports are of an animal in the open, in broad daylight. If no one believes the report, though, it might as well be invisible.)

why would this thing let them get so close?

(Many reports are of encounters at a distance of 20 feet or – considerably – less.)

  15. whiteriverfisherman responds:

It’s obviously not a bear and if it’s a fake it’s a good one. I had the sound muted in order to concentrate on the images so I don’t know how corny the dialog is but I should watch it with sound. I liked the way that whatever it is rotated its shoulders and upper body, not its head and neck, in order to turn and look back just before it got up and left. To me it looked like the thing was focused on something it was doing and didn’t realize the people were there at first. I also thought the thing was quite large and the shoulders very broad. The arm swing looked natural as well. Am I saying this is a Bigfoot? Nope but it is definitely not a bear. Oh and there are many sightings of Bigfoot creatures during the day. They are just like any other nocturnal animal. They wonder around in day light too.

  16. Goodfoot responds:

No, not a bear. Not even a very good fake. Maybe it was, y’know, answering nature’s call? Do hoaxters, y’know… in the woods?

  17. kapplegate responds:

At first I was sure it was a bear the way its head bobbed up and down, but when it stood up I was shocked! Still can’t say for sure either way though..

  18. Goodfoot responds:

Providence of hoax? Listen to the dialogue. Do you need to flip a coin to decide?

  19. Goodfoot responds:

    Oooh. OR hoax, I meant!
