Sykes to Release Sasquatch DNA Study Results on Patty Day?

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on October 14th, 2013

To air on British TV Channel 4 at 8:00 PM, October 20.

Yeti, Bigfoot, Abominable Snowman, Sasquatch and Almasty are just some of the names for mysterious creatures across the globe that have fascinated cryptozoologists and confounded scientists for decades.

Are they an ancient hominid, a member of the human family like Neanderthals? Are they giant apes or some other species? Or are they simply hoaxes? A leading British geneticist believes he has the tools to finally answer the riddle.

Oxford Professor of Human Genetics Bryan Sykes has assembled substantial physical evidence, which he subjects to the most sophisticated DNA tests available, as he and presenter Mark Evans hope to answer scientifically, once and for all, the mystery of Bigfoot.

Episode 1

Mark Evans travels to the Himalayas to find the real story behind the centuries-old Yeti legend.

He risks altitude sickness at Everest Base Camp, where the photograph of a footprint in the snow set off Yeti mania in 1951. He traces the legend through ancient manuscripts, holy relics and a Nazi expedition, and meets people convinced they have come face-to-face with the creature known in the west as the Abominable Snowman.

Meanwhile Professor Sykes reveals the results of his DNA tests on the Yeti hair samples he’s collected. The results are spectacular and unexpected.

looking fwd to this for sure…. hopefully no circus act with this one… 🙂

  2. Hapa responds:

Finally there is a date for the release of the Oxford results. However, I did not expect it to be released on some TV documentary, but in a scientific journal. Will the results be published in both on the same day?

And why is it labeled as “Episode 1”? In some ways, this is not making any sense. I would guess that the results would be in a press release, not a documentary.

    What is going on here?

  3. edsbigfoot responds:

I’m tellin’ ya, all the Ketchum cage rattling out of nowhere has something to do with the Sykes stuff….

  4. William responds:

I checked the BBC channel on my cable menu and this is not yet listed. Instead a movie – Fantastic Four, is shown for that date and time. I would love to be able to watch this when it initially airs, so any additional info on this would be appreciated!

  5. chewbaccalacca responds:

Make no mistake: no matter how well-researched this material turns out to be, the debunkers are already sharpening their knives.

  6. shmargin responds:

The part of my mind that is a glutton for punishment is curious if there will be a response from the Rick Dyer circus about all this. Last I read he still claimed to have the body and the baby. Set for a January reveal? Maybe they want to teach the baby some tricks before he offers to sell it to Barnum & Bailey.

  7. Goodfoot responds:

I think B&B has their own trainers. As if Dyer wouldn’t have already gone to them if the lying S.O.S. actually ever had anything.

  8. edsbigfoot responds:

I don’t think he’s releasing the entire DNA study on TV, its confusing, but at the bottom of the caption it says: “Meanwhile Professor Sykes reveals the results of his DNA tests on the Yeti hair samples he’s collected.” I think he has done tests on hair samples specific to the Yeti in Nepal, which it looks like is what he’ll be discussing. I don’t think its the entire Sasquatch study, I think its two different things, could be wrong but that’s how it looks.

  9. alan borky responds:

Craig here’s your clue what’s on offer.

“Bryan Sykes and presenter Mark Evans hope to answer scientifically, once and for all, the mystery of Bigfoot.”

    Once and for all?

    That there’s Randi/’Gorilla’ Skeptic talk.

Even if they’ve used the best most up to date research techniques to take a massive dump on any samples they’ve tested there’s still the possibility superior yet to be developed research techniques may refute those findings.

And then there’s the likelihood new evidence’ll keep turning up.

But even if Sykes claims to have proof of Bigfoot the same refutational avalanche’ll come down on his head as continues to rumble down on supporters of Flores Man.

Yet this programme’s go’n’o decide the whole matter once and for all?

  10. Goodfoot responds:

Randi. I could go the rest of my life without hearing that name. A man with a background so unsavory it cannot even be discussed here. But y’all are welcome to look it up!

  11. yowie man responds:

A little investigation of the british channel 4 site shows that it is a three part series and only episode 1 deals with yeti. It may well be that the bigfoot stuff may not appear until the second, or most likely, third episode, which are to be screened weekly, from october 20th.

  12. Goodfoot responds:

…you just keep me hangin’ on….

  13. chadgatlin responds:

I think that if they had evidence of an undocumented species, it would not be released this way. We would at the very least know a date that the study would be published in a journal prior to a television show airing.

They say the results are unexpected – my guess is the results from the samples match either a thought-to-be-extinct species or a very rarely seen species. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see, and I hope it airs on BBC America or is picked up by one of the Discovery or National Geographic channels.

  14. DWA responds:

    Let’s get one thing straight.

Nothing is going to be established scientifically, once and for all, by DNA sequences none of which came from that big guy, right over there.

Even when we have a body the fun, scientifically speaking, will only have just begun.

Why do people keep saying stuff like this when 99% of the science done on a daily basis in the world is being done on stuff we already know about?

  15. Degnostik responds:

If we’re to assume that Ketchum’s recent publicity stunt had something to do with the impending revelations by Sykes (and obviously it had), it would also be only logical to assume that the “circus” people made of her study (from leaks and sabotage from the Nature magazine to “mindrape”, “angel dna” and backstabbing by associates/defectors) could have had something to do with the same.
