US Forest Service Coverup of Bigfoot?

If true, these claims of a coverup by USFS officials in Washington state are very interesting…

For those who may be interested in the subject of the Sasquatch (Bigfoot), I wanted to bring something up I was recently talking about.

I was chatting with someone about the possibility of a cover up in regard to this subject, I don’t specifically mean a government one

However, I know of two cases in which forest service personnel were involved.

with limited space here, this may take a bit to explain, so for those reading this, please be patient with me.

In 1994, I was contacted by the father of a co-worker. He and a friend of his had been scouting a favorite hunting area prior to the season

this area had been totally blocked to public access for years, they had a vehicle that made it possible to go cross country

This was in the Mt Adams area of Washington state

the roads there are covered with a thick dust, averaging 2 to 3 inches in depth on average, this is a perfect medium for impressions

The two men who were scouting their hunting area came across what they believed to be footprints made by a Sasquatch

They followed the tracks for a very long distance, they estimated there to have been thousands of footprints, which is not unusual

They decided they needed to tell someone about their find, on their way out of the area, they encountered a forest service supervisor.

They related what they had been doing and what they found and where to this individual.

He removed what they estimated a very expensive looking cameras from his truck, and said he was going to document the footprints.

They contacted me a few hours later knowing I was an investigator of the issue. and wanted to take me there immediately.

I agreed, and we left for the site. we traveled the same way they had gone to find the prints and told me the entire story.

we passed a forest service water truck just prior to going cross country in that area, this is the type used to support fire fighting

Once we arrived to the road network inside the blocked off area, we saw that the water truck had been on these roads.

When we got to the location where they found the footprints, we found that the road had been “misted” which is rain like spray

this is one kind of spray these other trucks can do in assisting forest fire fighting efforts

the only place where water had been used, is where the two men said the footprints had been, the water had destroyed them.

when I attempted to locate this supervisor, I was told no such person existed! I found the attitude by forest service personnel

less than honest

I know of one other personal situation similar that I investigated, I will relate this another time

when asked why this issue would be covered up, the answer is simple, financial concerns,

when researching for my book, I did some work with the federal endangered species act

If the worlds largest living hominid were to be proven to exist on the north american continent, ALL logging would stop overnight..literally

The industry and all associated businesses would cease to function for years…I believe this could provide a very credible reason

If such a cover up were being perpetrated…..food for thought

Of course there are officials who know these are real, but the only thing that a proven sasquatch means to a Forest Service Agent is a giant pain in the butt! To see “Sasquatch Crossing” signs would be cool to see, though.

  2. Buckeyes1 responds:

These same sorts of claims have been made in Tasmania regarding the Thylacine. Namely that the Govt or the forestry industry itself clamp down on all possible sightings of the allegedly extinct Tyger because if it were proved they still exist it would adversely impact logging throughout the island.

Not without merit I would say. Very interesting stuff.

  3. sonofthedestroyer responds:

No surprises here. I know very well that governments of the USA and Britain (I live in the UK) are involved in major coverups around cryptozoology.
I am absolutely certain that if all the contents of the Smithsonian vaults were made public we will see so much that will threaten to explode our minds!

  4. thegsmiths4 responds:

Its not a far-fetched idea that a coverup could be carried out to save the logging industry. I’ve posted before that I thought if bigfoot was acknowledged, every bit of forest where they might, maybe, possibly could live would be locked down.

I just don’t think its likely. It is impossible for an agency such as the forestry service to keep an important secret like this for such a long time. Even the CIA can’t keep secrets from leaking. And their leaks cost lives.

Human nature makes it impossible. The number of people involved almost guarantees that there will be someone in the group who will sell it for money or use it to further an ideological agenda. The more time that goes by, the more personel will have to be told, which increases the odds of it being let out.

In my opinion, the government papers written about bigfoot and the yeti are not proof that the governments believe they exist. I think they are proof that bureaucrats will say and do anything to cover their a** just in case.

I’ve thought something like that for years ……. also consider how it would effect other industries ……

  6. bfseeker responds:

I have said this for years. Just look what the spotted owl did to logging in the western states when it was discovered. I know first hand that it crippled the logging industry for years. I know of 3 or 4 saw mills that shut down after that because very little government land was able to be logged after it was discovered. Thus putting a strain on those logging the logs to find private land to log and cutting their production signifacantly. And that was just in North California in my little neck of the woods.

  7. Hapa responds:

Reminds me of the conspiratorial background to the movie “Troll Hunter”, as well as a similar thing about Dragons in “Dragons: a fantasy made real (I believe outside the states it is called “The Last dragon”). I don’t buy this story, but it should make one cautious when looking for cryptids: if you have any whiff of government opposition, and you bag or trap or get remains of a cryptid, take every dad-blasted precaution to keep your find secure and unknown until you get to the nearest news building!

  8. Spinach Village responds:

First of all, this was a great read. Thanks relaying the twitter feed Craig. Seems like a very worth while book.

The “leaks” come out, in fact I would consider this a leak. Cryptomundo has also posted another similar “leak” recently.

The leaks don’t move the public, because the mainstream news does not give it traction. And of course if your favorite newscaster doesn’t talk about it, then it’s not worth talking about. It’s just another myth for fringe thinkers to consider.

If a mainstream newscaster would present a thoroughly documented report, which has aggregated all the “leaks” then the public would feel safe about thinking that Bigfoot creatures actually exist.

Unfortunately it’s more about who reports the leaks, than the actual leaks themselves.

Logging > Housing > Economy > Big Business > Taxes > Elections …Yeah, there could be something to that theory. I’ve suspected something along those lines for a while now.

  9. mandors responds:

I am not going comment on the veracity of the story, but rather the propensity of government agencies to prevaricate and in some case lie. Look at the recent UARS satellite crash. The satellite was the size of a school bus, but NASA stated it had no idea where or when it would enter the Earth’s atmosphere. Both NASA and the USAF claim to have the ability to monitor lunch box sized debris hundreds of miles up in orbit, but they supposedly could not track an object as huge as UARS. Worse, when reports by eyewitnesses started coming in, NASA rejected them all, leading to the question: if you don’t know where it is, how can you dismiss people who claimed to have seen something?

  10. Zabo responds:

the enviro-nazi’s would be bringing up some kind of civil rights issue. so not only loggers would be put out of the forest but also i believe everyday people would be locked out also! it would mean bye bye camping, atv, and anything else fun to do in the woods. thank god for their cover-up! for once anyway!

  11. Redrose999 responds:

Well, with politics today, I wouldn’t be surprised by anything. There are always secrets and it usually goes back to money.

  12. loyalfromlondon responds:

There’s enough to worry about in the field of Bigfoot research without adding X-Files government conspiracies.

When you take into account the sheer amount of people presumably involved across multiple states and many years, it’s really unlikely there’s a cover-up. As thegsmiths4 pointed out “Human nature makes it impossible.”

Would make for a great novel however.

  13. JMcLaren responds:

This all makes me think of the story of the 2 sasquatch bodies supposedly collected from the devastation following the Mt. St. Helens eruption in 1980, and (so the story goes) removed by helicopter along with other charred carcasses for burning supervised by National Guard personnel:

I keep on thinking that someone who lives in Washington State should try to get to the bottom of this. If it’s true, there must be a load of retired forest service employees, National Guardsmen, and employees of firms contracted to provide support that would be eager to go on record. The important criterion would be witnesses who are (i) still alive, and (ii) retired, thus free to spill the beans.

If this story was true and came out, it would really change everything. It would also be a great journalistic coup!

  14. rayval68 responds:

I don’t think the impact would be that devastating to logging industry. It would be done in stages.

Once found and proven… Operations would be funded be the Government and managed by Environmental.

They would give themselves 12-18 months to hunt down and take into captivity every Sasquatch that they could possibly find. This would be done nationwide. A preserve or sanctuary would be created and it would most likely be strictly for them.

There diets would be studied and whatever is needed will be supplied. Vegetation would be plentiful and other forms of wildlife would be imported and set loose for them to hunt.

I use to think that the Bigfoot phenomenon was suppressed by the Government. Theses days I don’t know.

Can you name any politician that wouldn’t embrace an unprecedented distraction for the nation. Especially with the way things are today.

  15. Tara responds:

It’s common knowledge in the woods that the forestry will do whatever they can to keep people away from known Bigfoot evidence. it’s only a cover up to people who think of it that way. To all of us here in the woods it’s just policy. :/

  16. DWA responds:

There’s nothing inherently implausible about this.

And as Spinach Village noted, this isn’t like CIA leaks, which the public considers inherently plausible (despite almost none of them having seen as much evidence for the typical CIA leak as they’ve seen for Bigfoot).

There’s nothing surprising about land management agencies trying to keep headaches from happening. And this would be one massive headache.

  17. lmendoza281 responds:

Im not suprised. I recently made a trip to mt rainier to the paradise area. Me and my father arrived to fresh snow and realized after hiking through ice that noone else had been around that day. No footprints besides ours, a few bear and deer. We then stubled upon a massive footprint, and a smell i cant describe and that i had never encountered. we photographed all the prints ( including the bear and deer) so that we could compare later. We overheard a park ranger discussing bigfoot with his friend and confronted him with the pictures. He found it better to ignore us and walk away, refusing to talk to us about it. It makes sense in a way. Alot of people die up there each year from getting lost and what not. Imagine what they see spending every day of the year up there in those woods. Now imagine having hundreds of people scouring the woods looking for a bigfoot. Destroying wildlife and getting hurt and lost. Im not saying it’s right to ignore the fact to the public, but in a way i can understand why they do it.

  18. DWA responds:

    lmendoza281: right.

Again, we’re not talking a major CIA/NSA/President/Cabinet/Group of Seven/Team of Six/Black Cross Society top-level coverup.

We’re just talking land management people, not sure what they have here except that as far as science is concerned it isn’t real, trying to deflect a lot of what they feel is very problematical attention, whether they think the phenomenon real themselves or not.

There are perfectly good reasons, from a strict land-management standpoint, to deflect that attention when it can be easily done, which in this case it can be.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
