Yeti, Set, Go

Dr. Bryan Sykes of the Oxford-Lausanne Collateral Hominid Project talks about the yeti on The Today Show.

Using DNA to track the mythical yeti

Tales of the giant, mountain-dwelling yeti have been told for decades, but is it just a myth or does the creature exist? To get answers, Oxford professor Brian Sykes is using DNA analysis to test material connected to the yeti. NBC’s Keith Miller reports.

  1. Hapa responds:

Is it just me, or does the stuffed Himalayan Brown Bear have a face similar to that of a baboon? I guess you can get that appearance if you remove the hairs from the bear’s face, but was that done to make the creature more “Yeti-ish”, and if so, why?

  2. Goodfoot responds:

So you’re suggesting that local residents have flawed knowledge of their local fauna, but you do not?

Just like the piker in the clip, who claims he knows more than the locals, who’ve lived there their entire lives, and who have never seen a Himalayan Brown Bear?

As for this old, “mountain-dwelling” creature: anyone with half of lick of nature sense knows that’s patently impossible. There is NOTHING TO EAT on snow peaks. God almighty.

IF they exist, and the evidence is powerful that they do, they would dwell in the deep valley rhododendron forests.

I am continually shocked at the stupidity of the “human” organism. They don’t seem to be able to think one single thing through.

    Goodfoot:

    Or hold a suspended judgment.

    On ANYTHING.
