Awhile back, I wrote about possible footprints of a sasquatch being discovered in Golden Ears Provincial Park about an hour’s drive from Vancouver. The reaction from Cryptomundo readers was mixed. Some thought the prints were likely those of a jogger while other thought they might have been made by a sasquatch.
See the original post here on Cryptomundo at: Sasquatch Tracks in British Columbia?
Thomas Steenburg and Sebastian Wang of the joint Westcoast Sasquatch and BCSCC investigations team were able to locate the witness who took the photographs and I am sharing their findings here with Cryptomundo readers.
I will keep the name of the witness confidential, but I know who he is. Our witness was taking a walk in the park which bounds Alouette Lake, when he was approached by an elderly Italian man who was walking his dog. The Italian said that the witness ought to go up the road and take a look at the footprints left by “that baboon that Canadians are always talking about.” By that I think we can safely say that he was referring to a sasquatch. Now, if the tracks had been made by a jogger, the Italian would probably not have suggested that our witness/photographer even bother taking a look at them. There must have been something unusual about the tracks for the Italian man to have felt they needed to be looked at by our man.
Heeding this advice, our witness walked up the road to where the tracks were and was surprised to see the intervals between each track and the way they seemed to have virtually no straddle. He followed the tracks for some distance up the road and then noticed they turned left across the road and then off the road into the bush. This would have been odd behaviour for a jogger to have tracked off into the snow in the dead of winter, considering if he/she had got lost who would have known they were there? This is not the type of behaviour a jogger indulges in especially after it has been snowing.
The possibility that these tracks were left by a sasquatch was a distinctly possible one as far as our witness is concerned. Last June, our witness was hiking in the park about eight kilometers from the park entrance when he and a friend stopped to take a break. The witness was distracted by movement on a hillside and when he focused in on what was causing the movement he was surprised to see that it was a very tall hair-covered beast moving about. The hair was of a light colour and when the creature stood to its full height, the witness was shocked to see that it was between 10 and 12 feet tall.
This may seem an extreme height, but when you consider that Golden Ears Provincial Park is just kilometers from Pitt Lake where in 1965 two brothers saw a 10 –12 foot creature leaving footprints in the snow, it is not inconceivable that the witness may have seen the same creature or a similar one. The witness thought that the animal had coloration not unlike a silverback gorilla indicating advanced age.
To add even more intrigue to this sighting, I was prompted to look up any and all sightings in the Golden Ears Park area and I was led to an account that was submitted to the Oregonbigfoot.com website hosted by investigator Autumn Williams. A British Columbia teenager has alerted Autumn to his sighting of a very tall sasquatch on the hillside above Alouette Lake. He and a friend witnessed the creature and promptly shared the experience with his parents.
Through Autumn’s gracious assistance, Thomas and Sebastian were able to contact the witness and arrange an interview. The teenager’s father was present and was able to corroborate the boys’ sightings and confirm that he felt that they had told the truth about the sighting. Thomas and Sebastian felt the boy had been truthful about his experience and are of the opinion that it would be worthwhile following up by conducting a concerted search of that area.
I shall keep Cryptomundo readers alerted to what we find and will detail our results here as they come to hand.
About John Kirk
One of the founders of the BCSCC, John Kirk has enjoyed a varied and exciting career path. Both a print and broadcast journalist, John Kirk has in recent years been at the forefront of much of the BCSCC’s expeditions, investigations and publishing. John has been particularly interested in the phenomenon of unknown aquatic cryptids around the world and is the author of In the Domain of the Lake Monsters (Key Porter Books, 1998).
In addition to his interest in freshwater cryptids, John has been keenly interested in investigating the possible existence of sasquatch and other bipedal hominids of the world, and in particular, the Yeren of China. John is also chairman of the Crypto Safari organization, which specializes in sending teams of investigators to remote parts of the world to search for animals as yet unidentified by science. John travelled with a Crypto Safari team to Cameroon and northern Republic of Congo to interview witnesses among the Baka pygmies and Bantu bushmen who have sighted a large unknown animal that bears more than a superficial resemblance to a dinosaur.
Since 1996, John Kirk has been editor and publisher of the BCSCC Quarterly which is the flagship publication of the BCSCC. In demand at conferences, seminars, lectures and on television and radio programs, John has spoken all over North America and has appeared in programs on NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, TLC, Discovery, CBC, CTV and the BBC.
In his personal life John spends much time studying the histories of Scottish Clans and is himself the president of the Clan Kirk Society. John is also an avid soccer enthusiast and player.
