Incident at Boiling Springs Campground, Idaho

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on November 18th, 2011

This story comes to me from a reader who is interested in learning if there are other reports, sightings or incidents near the Boiling Springs Campground area.

Witness report-My bigfoot story begins with me reading about three other reported sightings in the area of Boiling Springs Camp Ground between 2008 to 2010. So I decided to do my bear hunting at the same site.

The day was Saturday, September 24th, 2011. My friend Eric and I were bear hunting and we set out about 8am. The weather was clear and sunny; the temperature was about 46 degrees. We hiked about 2 miles up the south fork of the Payette river and crossed over to start moving into the tree line.
After about a half mile we were moving up hill and were stopped by the noise of something moving through the brush. We did not see anything as the wilderness up there is quite thick. We got behind a large downed pine tree and waited to see if the thing would continue to come in our direction and it didn’t, so after 20 minutes we decided to walk in the direction of where we heard the noise, we got about 150 yards up a old game trail and were moving up hill and come to a small stream with water running in it, but the bushes were so thick you couldn’t see the water. During the hike there were typical forest sounds such as birds, squirrels and bugs. Once we got closer to the bushes the forest was dead silent and at one point I told Eric to listen and he said he couldn’t hear anything and I said that’s what I am talking about there are no noises at all. As we moved closer to the bushes a large but new green pine cone with pine needles still attached came flying out of the bushes in our direction.

I think when we get a confirmed Bigfoot specimen, it will come from a situation just like that described in this story. A trained, experienced big-game hunter, adequately armed and not easily frightened.

This fellow had the presence of mind to do the right thing: never shoot at anything when you are not sure of what it is. That is a basic principle of gun safety.

It would have applied to the Patterson-Gimlin episode as well, when the pair could have easily shot the squatch if they knew what it was.

This guy apparently knew what a squatch was and how it was supposed to look. Would he have shot it if it showed itself? Only he knows.

Whats interesting to me is that he said he read three reports of recent bigfoot sightings from the area and decided to go bear hunting there. Did he think people were mistaking bear for bigfoot or was he looking to have an encounter?
As a hunter I’ve thought about the scenario if a squatch presented a shot would I take it and I don’t think I would unless I felt extremely threatened. But I agree with airgunner thats probably how we will get a specimen.

  3. gridbug responds:

    What’s a “squatch”?

  4. hugesummers responds:

I served in the Marine Corps over 20 years and I never heard anyone describe themselves as “a Special Forces Trained Solider (sic) as a Force Recon Marine and Air Force Combat Controller and have three tours in combat”. I caught three fake veterans in my career, one of whom was a respected lawyer, and it’s always nonsensical comments like this that start the investigation. I would be really interested to see him produce a service record.

  5. TimmyRyan65 responds:

The problem with this “sighting” is the person didn’t see anything. Out of all the known animals in the world as well as the fact we live in a world with a lot people in it, this person automatically goes to the assumption that the pine cone and rock were “thrown” his way by a “mythological” creature? Hmmmmmm. Ok this is proof. 😉

  6. John Melland responds:

I have been to the area numerous times and had a couple incidents there. As well as other locations here in Idaho. We are sure we had a sighting at Boiling Springs then the following year, a boulder thrown and hitting the ground nearby. A couple of my friends have heard wood knocks in that area as well as speech. Its a Squatchy area.
