Loren Coleman About Loren Coleman
Loren Coleman is one of the world’s leading cryptozoologists, some say “the” leading living cryptozoologist. Certainly, he is acknowledged as the current living American researcher and writer who has most popularized cryptozoology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Starting his fieldwork and investigations in 1960, after traveling and trekking extensively in pursuit of cryptozoological mysteries, Coleman began writing to share his experiences in 1969. An honorary member of Ivan T. Sanderson’s Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained in the 1970s, Coleman has been bestowed with similar honorary memberships of the North Idaho College Cryptozoology Club in 1983, and in subsequent years, that of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, CryptoSafari International, and other international organizations. He was also a Life Member and Benefactor of the International Society of Cryptozoology (now-defunct). Loren Coleman’s daily blog, as a member of the Cryptomundo Team, served as an ongoing avenue of communication for the ever-growing body of cryptozoo news from 2005 through 2013. He returned as an infrequent contributor beginning Halloween week of 2015. Coleman is the founder in 2003, and current director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.

Good News!! It is always a treat to get to see these elusive creatures, can’t wait until we see a truly giant specimen in its natural habitat, when technology allows us to go that deep of course:)

  2. springheeledjack responds:

This begs the question I think…is it just coincidence that we are now beginning to come across and capture these critters???

It’s the fourth specimen, but the 4th in a short amount of time…

Does that mean people’s methods are getting better? Is something driving them to the surface more often? Something else?

  3. Ceroill responds:

Springheeledjack: I suspect it has something to with deep ocean currents being affected more than we realize, driving these animals into higher waters in search of viable food sources.

  4. Foxfier responds:

    Maybe they don’t like volcanoes.

  5. hudgeliberal responds:

Springheeledjack and Ceroill, each of you could be right. I think, obviously, with all the fishing, pollution, global warming and man made problems, anything is possible. They could have a predator that we do not know about that may be forcing them to the surface. Could be lack of food. Hopefully we can find out and protect this marvelous enigmatic species. Who knows what lurks in the dark depths of the ocean? Take care fellas.

  6. Amdusias responds:

With all of the giant squid popping up these days, I am starting to lose hope that the giant octopus is still about.
One would think the same deep sea pressures driving Architeuthis up from the deep would also play a similar tune for Octopus Giganticus.
