Bushman Author On Bus During Attack

Posted by: Loren Coleman on September 23rd, 2008

Readers will recall the stabbing and beheading on a Greyhound bus less than two months ago. There’s been another stabbing on another Canadian Greyhound bus involving Winnipeg.

It happened on Sunday, September 21, 2008, and you can read about all the details here.

I dug a bit into this new incident and found some odd “coincidences” tied to the attack.

First, there is a name game link (“Wayne”). David Wayne Roberts, 28, of Manitouwadge, Ontario, has been charged with aggravated assault and breach of probation. As has been noted by various Fortean researchers, for some strange reason many violent criminals share the middle name “Wayne.”

Chuck Shepherd, the creator of “News of the Weird,” is perhaps the major source of a detailed database on this phenomenon. Certainly, merely his list of murderers alone is quite extensive (e.g. killer clown John Wayne Gacy).

Another bizarre tie seems to be an odd cryptozoo one. Winnipeg author Anita Daher was on the bus and witnessed the attack. She told the Winnipeg Free Press on Sunday night the attack was unprovoked and happened shortly after police brought the man on board. Police confirmed her story Monday, saying there was no apparent history between the victim and the accused and no motive has been established.

Daher has an upcoming book to be released in 2009, entitled On the Trail of the Bushman, set in the Yukon. The “Bushman” is another name often given to Sasquatch-type beings encountered in NWT, Alaska, and the Yukon. The Nuk-luk translates as “Man of the Bush.” (See The Field Guide of Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates, especially pages 13, 23-26, 52-53, 90-91, 118-119, and 170.)

As an update, I have heard from author Daher and she confirms the topic of her book will be hominological. “As a matter of fact, in this book my characters discuss the many names given to the Bushman–specifically, how ‘he’ is known by varying names depending on region,” she emails me the afternoon of September 23rd. “Also, they discuss the connection to the Windigo spirit, which features largely.”

Eurasia’s Woodpeople or wudewasa are Canada’s “Bushman” or “Nuk-luk,” and these might actually be the models for those Geico ads.

Geico Caveman

You will recall the earlier Canadian bus attack was linked to the Windigo by one ethnographer. Now we have another bus attack tied to the Bushman? Intriguing and bizarre.

Very interesting article and links. Thanks for posting.

Also curious is the similarity between Wayne and Weiguang!

I had always assumed the Geico “cavemen” were Neanderthals.
