Wow, the mystery cat reports are pouring in this week. Here’s yet another one, this time from Ohio for September 1, 2011.
A black leopard whose sightings have been reported to local law enforcement has apparently made another appearance in the Dayton area.
Chris Walden said he was looking out of a window of his Lofty Oaks Lane home and noticed a large black cat-like animal walking slowly across his yard Wednesday night.
“It was like stalking, the way it was walking,” Walden said. “I didn’t know what to think. I was stunned and amazed at the same time.”
Walden called the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and then called Outreach for Animals, Inc., a local non-profit that deals with exotic animals who are found in residential areas.
This is the second alleged black leopard sighting this week, according to Sheriff’s Major Dave Hale.
A person reported seeing the animal on Tuesday near the wooded area along the Stillwater River near Shoup Mill Road and Riverside Drive, Hale said.
The leopard has been spotted at least five or six times in the last 14 or 15 months, Hale said.
“The likelihood of trapping an animal like that is pretty small,” Hale said. “If we have a sighting, we will take the appropriate steps.”
So far, the sheriff’s office has not had a report of the leopard approaching a human. Right now, the leopard appears to be staying close to the wooded area near the river. The Dayton Daily News
Earlier, on July 12th, The Dayton Daily News also reported on some “black leopard” encounters.
Thanks to Ken Monnier for the news tip on this one.
