Loren Coleman About Loren Coleman
Loren Coleman is one of the world’s leading cryptozoologists, some say “the” leading living cryptozoologist. Certainly, he is acknowledged as the current living American researcher and writer who has most popularized cryptozoology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Starting his fieldwork and investigations in 1960, after traveling and trekking extensively in pursuit of cryptozoological mysteries, Coleman began writing to share his experiences in 1969. An honorary member of Ivan T. Sanderson’s Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained in the 1970s, Coleman has been bestowed with similar honorary memberships of the North Idaho College Cryptozoology Club in 1983, and in subsequent years, that of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, CryptoSafari International, and other international organizations. He was also a Life Member and Benefactor of the International Society of Cryptozoology (now-defunct). Loren Coleman’s daily blog, as a member of the Cryptomundo Team, served as an ongoing avenue of communication for the ever-growing body of cryptozoo news from 2005 through 2013. He returned as an infrequent contributor beginning Halloween week of 2015. Coleman is the founder in 2003, and current director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.

  1. ScottAR responds:

    Those Australians aren’t shy.

  2. WOLVES-TALON responds:

I have to play devil’s advocate on this one…. Ok, he claims the bruises had come from an attack. Now by the color and radiation points over alot of his body….if this indeed is what happened…he had to have been “attacked” by a juvenile…..for one reason, and it is the most logical to me …like I said before a juvenile ..not an adult..because we as researchers knows that if it were and adult, it would have been broken bones and not bruises.

    And most definitely
    Not shy at all……

  3. Brothermidnight responds:

looks more like he took a tumble down a rocky incline to me.

  4. maeko responds:

from what i can gather, all that is said is that something ran smack into him and he landed in a rock pool. not so much an aggressive attack, as a case of something running him over. so the bruises and scrapes should be from the fall, not the animal.

there isn’t much to take from this, but the tale. maybe there is a more detailed story that i missed, but a story with one witness just the same.

  5. napalm responds:

I agree, maeko. Alleged event with one witness. The pictures are nice (well, not really, I feel dirty now), but they don’t add anything substantial for me as an outside observer. Either way, interesting anecdote to add to the lore.

  6. coelacanth1938 responds:

This might help, re: bruise aging.

  7. cliff responds:

Well, the photos are proof that he got his butt kicked or ran over by something, but that’s really all the photos prove. I’m not going to come straight out and call shenanigans, but even the guy standing naked in his shower holding his junk isn’t convincing. He actually didn’t even have to get completely naked to show us the injuries, that makes me feel like he went through all that trouble to add dramatic affect, lol.

  8. groovyghosthunter responds:

Holy cow. Well, whatever happened, it looks painful.

  9. cryptidsrus responds:

I think the reason he got naked was both to show the full extent of the injuries and (in his mind) to add credibility to his tale. More “evidence,” so to speak.

I’m not an “expert” here. Particularly on “bruising”—but that does not look like he hit himself with a rock to me.

I DO agree it could have been from him being run over by something or just him falling into the ground or rockpool.

I also have to concur with Maeko. Interesting tale, nevertheless. Ultimately, though, it is “unverifiable.”

If I were to hazard a guess, I’d say whatever IT was ran past him and he stumbled and fell into a hard surface, causing him some harm. I guess he elaborated the yarn into it being an “attack” for dramatic effect. This also concurs with Maeko’s take on it.
Ultimately, we’ll never know. But still an interesting story. Thanks, Loren.

  10. Loren Coleman responds:

    Update: More photos added.

  11. stranger responds:

Ack! Not the hairy biped photos I was looking for!

Enough Yowie owies. I’m going back to the Nessie story with the Vicki Michelle pics.

  12. Rangoon responds:

Ayuh a bruise is a bruise and I really couldn’t comment on origin.

I can say a 110 pound chimpanze does much more substantial damage than that when they wish to do damage. I think saying he was knocked for a tumble by something is possibility though.

  13. northeast cryptid responds:

I agree with groovyghosthunter…….painful to look at……and I don’t mean the bruises…..Anyway,it is what it is….a story with the truth unverifiable. I do feel that as more researchers enter the fields(and especially with the larger efforts),it is only a matter of time before we corner a cryptid and I’m not sure how well that will end. All of these creatures are more animal than human, just by their nature, and if cornered I’m sure they will defend themselves. They haven’t lived a life of solitude by accident——they like it that way. I predict that within 3 years, with the current amount of time being devoted,we will have the proof that people have been after for a long time. I just hope it doesn’t come with a terrible price….for either man or beast.

  14. proriter responds:

Now THAT’s some convincing proof. Yeah. Uh-huh. Yep. Sure. Uh-huh.

  15. octavioa1 responds:

He could have worn whity tightys and shown the same bruises. Lol

  16. kittenz responds:

Those injuries look more like road burn from a motorcycle accident than injuries from an animal attack. Compare those injuries to the injuries that a chimpanzee inflicted on Charla Nash, for instance. Yowie are described as larger and more powerful than chimpanzees. Therefore it seems that a human, even one in tiptop condition, would sustain not only considerably more serious injuries, but injuries of a different nature than this if a yowie or similar animal really attacked.

It’s more likely a publicity stunt for Dean Harrison.

I do not believe that these bruises are really Yowie Owies

  17. Loren Coleman responds:

Good subtle point highlighted by stranger: “I’m going back to the Nessie story with the Vicki Michelle pics.”

With the recent photos here of Ms. Michelle and Ms. Goddard, perhaps unconsciously there needed to be some balance brought back into the cryptouniverse with the images shared from Mr. Harrison.

  18. scousequatch responds:

I could now *ahem* use some Anna Marie Goddard pics… 😉

  19. norman-uk responds:

Looks like huge hand prints on Dean Harrison’s knee and back. My impression is that the Yowie is less benign than Sasquatch and in this case did not intend serious injury. Perhaps he got in the way of a power rush like a that of a male chimpanzee. KITTENZ suggests the injuries look like those from a motorbike crash that wouldn’t surprise would it ?

As to what happened I would ask the expert Dean Harrison, he’s has scares before and my belief is that he is a man of integrity. I appreciate him sharing his experiences with us too (but would sooner the pics were of Cameron from terminator)

  20. Wutwuzit responds:

    *clicks topic*
*sees a nice little photo at top*
    *Reads the intro sentence*
    *Scrolls down*
First thing that went through my mind: “what the heck?”
Followed by quick scrolling for non-nude pictures.
*realizes theres a BUNCH of nekkidness*

LOL this topic was full of intrigue, shock, and mystery. Why would he pose naked? Hope it was his wife taking the pictures.

  21. Wiseman responds:

What I think to be the most plausible explanaation (and by that I mean without saying it’s NOT bruises due to an attack) is that he lied when he said he was pushed by a creature of some sort. In fact I think he was on the edge of some rocky declinaison, heard something behind him, turned around to see some creature there near him, or running at him, and he fell over the cliff by surprise.

Oh and I can’t take it anymore!!… He just has mange. :p

  22. Mark Wallbank responds:

I agree with what is being said above. A pointless article really. Pics of a naked body with bruises dont prove anything at all. I could bruise myself up like that in about 5 mins, take photos and send them in. Doesnt prove anything and doesnt help further research in any way. Perhaps hes angling for personal publicity, or maybe a modelling contract somewhere?
Now if someone was putting together a “Sexy nude Bigfoot Hunter pin-up 2010” calender…..

  23. thehoch responds:

Is he hiding his little Yowie down under?

This is more of a case of an exhibitionist showing off his boo boo than an attack from some unknown creature lurking in the Outback.

This is actually the first footage from a supposed Bigfoot incident that I wish was grainy.

  24. Woodenbong responds:

The truth of the matter is Dean Harrisons bruises were inflicted by he himself whole lost control of his BMW 4 X4 vehicle and ended up in a gully, plus he rolled down the embankement to further enhanse the bruises he already obtained in the vehicle accident.
That is the truth to the story, there was no yowie attack, his forum was going down hill in a big way and this was his way of getting attention.
In fact if you check on the AYR site you will see that he started a post Dean V Yowie, you will see that the thread has been locked as there was some serious questions being asked about the socalled attack and he couldn’t answer them.
Thats it in a nut shell, no Yowie attack just self afflicted bruises. And why take your clothes of, what a loser.

  25. john5 responds:

It sure looks there was either a strong grip or a heavy swat by a large hand on his left thigh. How else could fingerprint bruising be caused, not to mention how by self infliction?

I agree there was no need of nakedness to show the bruising, as the pic with the shorts is the best one of the bruising, but glad to see no big outcry of dismay about it in the above posts. After all we’re all naked under all the coverings and evidently Dean is either more comfortable with being naked in public, or less modest, than others, including me! 🙂

  26. Brothermidnight responds:

well after doing some investigating I can say imho that these bruises very well could have came from a motorcycle mishap ,his marks look very much like these here.

I truly believe this to be nothing more then a publicity stunt .

  27. korollocke responds:

He just triped and fell, felt embarrased and came up with a more exciting to story to get some cool points. If what he claims attacked him he would be dead or seriously injured not nude and freaking us out.

  28. YowieLover responds:

    Some comments to ponder,

“I was attacked and thrown threw the air 12ft” quote of Dean’s original story – (not my spelling) and…”I was ran at and pushed back some way and landed on my back” an additional weather like change on his site.

Interesting to note that there is NO ‘on back’ impact bruises from that 12 foot launch onto SOLID ROCK, or the requisite impact bruise from the said Yowie launcher required to move a 74kg/160 pound person 12 feet through the air.

    Just something to think about.

  29. YowieLover responds:

    norman-uk

If you think “my belief is that he is a man of integrity” look at the MBW post made in the “Yowie Exclusive – It was bloody scary” Cryptomundo post …you will notice a post made by MBW (Mike Williams) where Loren in fact states that he removed a comment that was “not factually correct” about my brother and myself…there was also a comment there implying we were stalking him and his family…again rubbish.

The “not factually correct” comment was in the first line of the “ENOUGH” post that has miraculously disappeared from AYR due to a ‘backup glitch’ (the post is still on Cryptomundo) written by Dean and posted by Mike (MBW) in the link below…I suggest you rethink your definition of integrity.

The post regarding the convenient disappearance of the “ENOUGH” post is below

    http://www.yowiehunters.net/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=2650

Many more lies about myself and my brother were made to distract people from the truth after we were banned from the site – we had no ability to reply.

It’s not rocket science to look at the MBW post, Loren’s reply and put perspective into the unwarranted exhibitionism of naked photo’s to prove an alleged “attack”

This has done nothing for cryptozoology – in fact it takes it a step back from being an accepted scientific endeavor. I hope others with less than the truth in mind will learn from this.

  30. ausiepath9 responds:

If the Yowie ran and pushed him backwards, can anyone explain why he has so many bruises on the front of his body. At his site he claims that he was thrown 12 feet into the air (Australian granite is hard and I would have expected that he would be in hospital if this was the case.) and then landed on his back and then processed to kick at the apparent yowie while on his back until it went running.

If he was on his back most of the time where do the front bruises originate from. It cannot be from the alleged attack as his own report on the incident claims he was on his back the whole time kicking back. From what I have read there are discrepancies in the story from those who were there with him at the time.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
