Mr. Mike: The End?

Steve Streufert of Bigfoot Books writes:

Well, the Overnight AM show was absolutely insane. Lan Lamphere was acting rather madly, live on the air!!! Lan Lamphere raged and ranted about all of us, the entire Bigfoot Community, save for his mysterious favorites, Sharon Lee and the FindBigfoot FaceBook guys. For some reason he was furious at you, after all you did was post something Chris Noel had posted on FaceBook. Utterly undeserved and irrational! I defended you and the other “enemy,” the BFRO, in the chatroom and then live on air. I don’t think he listened. Frankly, a pretty much total BS story from the start (save for the nice, hallucinating old man) and a seemingly very emotionally unstable host.

Lan Lamphere, formerly of Patriot Brigade Radio and involved in the Obama birth certificate business, has, of late, move on from UFOs to “Mr. Mike’s” Bigfoot contactee claims. He appears to want to pick a fight with anyone to get more publicity. What he seems to fail to see is that his tactics are driving away as many people as he “thinks” he’s attracting.

Sidebar of clarification: I am one of several bloggers here. I have not been the only one blogging here regarding this melodrama. Please, please read carefully as to who is the author of what you read.

Regarding the “Mr. Mike” story, it may be drawing to an end. A Bigfoot report that should have been investigated more before it was called a breaking story may be at an end. Is this really the end, or will media-hungry internet radio hosts find new ways to get listeners?

In the Tucson Citizen, this appeared today:

The final chapter in the saga of Mr. Mike and Bigfoot
by Cherlyn Gardner Strong on Jul.13, 2010

As a result of my last Bigfoot post on Sunday night, Internet radio host Lan Lamphere of OvernightAM contacted me via email to offer the “real story” behind Mr. Mike and the disappearing Bigfoot Facebook statuses.

In his written message to me, Lamphere vehemently stated that he never directed anyone, especially Chris Noel of the Bigfoot Facebook page, to delete the Bigfoot group’s Facebook statuses. He invited me to call him or listen to his radio show to get the full story. Due to a chaotic atmosphere with three newly adopted barking dogs, I opted to listen to the show to hear Lamphere’s explanation after the dogs went to sleep.

A few minutes before Lamphere’s show was scheduled to begin last night, I tried to get the live feed on my laptop. Despite several downloads and installations, I could not get the audio feed. I was able to see the listener chat window. I followed the chat while I tried to access the audio.

Several listeners were chatting about Lan Lamphere’s profanity-filled rant related to his disdain of Loren Coleman. Loren Coleman, for those who don’t know, is a cryptozoologist who writes for the website Cryptomundo. Coleman had reported the initial Bigfoot Facebook statuses in question on his blog. I was subsequently not able to find these statuses that Coleman reported about.

When I visited the page, the statuses had been deleted.

Here, it should be noted that what is being discussed is the Chris Noel “statuses” on Facebook, not any of the blogs at Cryptomundo. Indeed, the blogs at CM still have the text intact.

Last week, the story of Mr. Mike and the quickly multiplying family of Bigfoot creatures living in his yard had the Bigfoot community buzzing. I wasn’t too impressed with the story that prompted the investigation into that case. I was just interested in the deletion of the “live daily status updates” that the Facebook page claimed, coupled with the sensationalism that surrounds Bigfoot these days.

It was around the time of the anti-Coleman rant on the show that I repeated the entire OvernightAM installation process on my desktop computer. I was finally able to listen in to Lamphere’s show, just in time to hear what Lamphere wanted me to hear.

First off, Lamphere made it clear that he did not direct anyone to delete Facebook statuses. Instead, there is an agreement within the BFRO (Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization) that only Bigfoot blogger Sharon Lee is designated by Lamphere to provide scoops regarding the Mr. Mike saga on her blog. Noel posted his Facebook status updates prematurely. Blogger Sharon Lee was also present in Lamphere’s chat room last night, waiting for the announcement by Lamphere that she was the only person authorized to scoop future stories – not Loren Coleman.

Designated Bigfoot blogger Sharon Lee had much to say in her blog about last night’s events surrounding Lamphere’s show and about the Bigfoot community in general. She wrote, “As I stated in my previous blog post, the people in this field can be quite nasty to one another, even their so-called friends.” She continued by stating, “Lan wants you all to go away. He doesn’t care if you listen to his show ever again.”

Lee goes on to say that the Mr. Mike saga is not yet over, much to the disappointment of many of us, I might add. Lamphere revealed last night that he sent a private investigator over the weekend to shadow the “reputable researcher” that was sent by the BFRO, selected to investigate Mr. Mike’s Bigfoot claims. As you may recall, the researcher got Mr. Mike to admit that he was just seeing things.

Lamphere claims that there is more to this story. He revealed that his private investigator captured a nine foot tall shadow that may or may not be Bigfoot. There also will be future developments related to Mr. Mike.

If anyone is interested in future developments on this, it won’t be reported by me.

If you want to read the rest, which does not add to the story of Mike or what’s happened, you may read more here.

Loren Coleman About Loren Coleman
Loren Coleman is one of the world’s leading cryptozoologists, some say “the” leading living cryptozoologist. Certainly, he is acknowledged as the current living American researcher and writer who has most popularized cryptozoology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Starting his fieldwork and investigations in 1960, after traveling and trekking extensively in pursuit of cryptozoological mysteries, Coleman began writing to share his experiences in 1969. An honorary member of Ivan T. Sanderson’s Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained in the 1970s, Coleman has been bestowed with similar honorary memberships of the North Idaho College Cryptozoology Club in 1983, and in subsequent years, that of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, CryptoSafari International, and other international organizations. He was also a Life Member and Benefactor of the International Society of Cryptozoology (now-defunct). Loren Coleman’s daily blog, as a member of the Cryptomundo Team, served as an ongoing avenue of communication for the ever-growing body of cryptozoo news from 2005 through 2013. He returned as an infrequent contributor beginning Halloween week of 2015. Coleman is the founder in 2003, and current director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.
