MOBO: Hoax

The reports of a baboon in Missouri, or MOBO (below), not to be confused with MOMO (above), were without any foundation, it turns out.

According to local officials, reports the Examiner, the baboon spotted in Florissant, Missouri “has been labeled a HOAX by police.”

“A 14-year child told police that she took a picture of a baboon in her backyard. The Florissant Police Department called Zoo Experts as well as a K-9 unit to help with the search,” noted the early accounts.

(We are still trying to determine the identity of noted “Zoo Experts.”)

The Hazelwood School District even sent a letter to parents advising them of the potential dangers that people might face, if confronted with the primate.

“But then police learned of an identical picture on a wildlife website and re-interviewed the girl. She admitted the picture was actually taken from a computer screen,” summarized the paper.

For further info on what they are going to do to the girl, see here, which is also the source of the alleged baboon photo.

With its poor punctuation and grammar, Examiner.com seems to be one of those “citizen journalism” sites that are unreliable by their very nature.
