Update: Rock Ness & Nessie

Rock, paper, Nessie.

Despite early Loch Ness Monster reports to the contrary in newspapers yesterday, there are hints that something cryptozoological did occur during the recent musical concert, Rock Ness.

The usual things happened when a crowd of nearly 35,000 people gather. One man found unconscious under apparently “no suspicious circumstances,” died yesterday in a local hospital. A few people, seven to be specific, got arrested for “drugs charges and breach of the peace.” Lots of rock fans enjoyed two days of music in Scotland from 30 acts on five stages. It was just your typical outdoor music event. Almost.

Some people also reportedly saw Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster, after all, allegedly.

A £1 million bounty from the bookmaker William Hill has netted 30 sightings of the Loch Ness Monster in just 24 hours from festival-goers. Fans were offered “Nessie Snapper” cameras to keep an eye on the water for the elusive creature. – by Malcolm Law, – “Loch Ness Rock Festival Declared a Success Despite Man’s Death,” Scotsman, Monday, June 11, 2007

No details are available yet on the 30 Loch Ness sightings. Be prepared, however. Since Scottish whisky is often one of the taglines on stories about Nessie sightings, why should anything be different in future accounts regarding these Rock Ness eyewitnesses, except with drug use substituted for drinking?

That is one elusive creature, but then again that is one huge lake, I’ve heard it’s a very murky dark body of water.

  2. DWA responds:

Wonder what would happen if William Hill put a million-pound bounty on Bigfoot or the yeti.

Just a thought, if (prediction here) no one collects on Nessie.

Big problem looming, though. With no one having decided what Nessie is, what counts? Would a big fish count? A line of touring, conga-dancing otters? Inquiring minds want to know!

  3. size 13 responds:

Yea what about a Big Chunka Change for ol’ BF. Is anyone putting out anything for this creature?

Might get some good results if someone did. Bounty for Bigfoot, hmmm.

  4. mystery_man responds:

DWA- A good photo of an otter being made out to be huge by refracted heat waves would be something to see. That would be just as interesting and surprising to see as any photo of a real critter, I’d say.

  5. ddh1969 responds:

If I recall correctly there was at least one bounty put on BF but due to ‘safety issues’ the bounty was rescinded.

Has anyone seen the movie ‘Silver Bullet’ where, seemingly, all the men in the small town of Tarkers Mills go into the woods to hunt whatever is killing the townspeople? That was all in the name of ‘private justice’ but I figure most people imagine a scene like this when they think of a bounty on BF.

A good quote from the movie comes when one of the main characters finds the baseball bat (dubbed ‘The Peacemaker’) used by the creature to kill someone in the aforementioned scene. ‘It looks like Bigfoot used it for a toothpick’.

  6. kidquid responds:

Wow- just checked out the line up from “Rock Ness”, wish I was there! But I wish even more I was at the “Sasquatch” music festival in George , Washington over memorial day weekend. Arcade Fire, the Beastie Boys, Interpol…I love these cryptid themed music fests!
